Rudbeckia fulgida 'Goldsturm' is a neat daisy which erupts into bloom from July to October adding warm, end of season colour to your borders. Also known as Black-Eyed-Susan, 'Goldsturm' produces masses of uniform, golden-yellow flowers, each with a rich brown centre that will light up the garden like sunshine. A compact form of the garden coneflower, the sunflower-like blooms are carried on branching, upright stems which makes them great for cut flowers as well, so you can bring the colour indoors. Dierama Blackberry Bells is a strong growing hybrid with very large deep purple trumpet flowers which dangle from the arched stems, so earning it the familiar name of 'Angels Fishing Rod'. Most people know Elder to be invasive and only fit for large gardens, but Sambucus nigra f. porphyrophylla ?Black Tower? is dense and compact and suitable for small gardens where space is an issue. The dark green foliage is the main attraction to this deciduous shrub, growing in a tall and slender habit if given the correct conditions. Flattened sprays of lightly scented small pink flowers emerge in summer, then dark glossy berries take to stage and provide a great food source for garden birds in autumn.
