Carrot root fly is a troublesome pest but both Flyaway and Resistafly have partial carrot fly resistance, both contain low levels of chlorogenic acid, a chemical which the carrot fly larvae of needs to survive. Caryopteris are compact deciduous shrubs that boast a profusion of delicate flowers in clusters along arching branches in bright shades or lavender and blue. A Royal Horticultural Society 'Plant for Pollinators', caryopteris is a magnet for bees, butterflies and a host of other pollinating insects, attracted by the dense clusters of dainty flowers in August and September.
