Spikes of intensely fragrant, waxy white flowers are produced throughout summer, which make captivating cut flowers. The semi-double, fragrant tuberose flowers of this relatively unknown bulb are carried above narrow, lance shapes leaves. Commonly known as Tuberoses, these amazingly sweet-scented beauties will enchant you in summer, as their beautiful fragrance wafts gently on warm evening breezes. You can see why it is used so much as a base fragrance in leading perfumes !! Tuberoses make a really nice cut flower to scent a room with, or enjoy in pots too. Plant the bulbs indoors in spring to get a head start, and bring outside from May, growing in a warm, sunny spot. They flower in August and September, producing pretty creamy white double flowers, with an intoxicating strong fragrance, on stems about 60-80cm tall. Top tip for success is once flowered, remove this section of the bulbs, as it never flowers again, but leaving new side shoots to flower next year. Bring pots inside each winter for frost-free area, and dry back. Enjoy the allure of your own Tuberose fragrances wafting on evening breeze in your garden.
Redcurrants are a great starting point if you're new to growing your own soft fruit and 'Summer Pearls Red' is a wonderful variety with its gorgeous looking, wonderful tasting bunches of shiny bright red fruit. A great source of a wide range of vitamins, this tasty superfruit is a superb addition to your favourite desserts or breakfast cereals, accompanying ice cream and for making redcurrant jelly. Harvest them by picking the whole string, they're delicious eaten straight from the bush but long lasting in the fridge and freezer too. Redcurrants make attractive garden plants in their own right and can be easily trained as cordons and espaliers against a wall or fence. Although they produce the sweetest tasting fruit when grown in full sun, they also do well in partial shade. So easy to grow, hardy and vigorous, cropping reliably whilst requiring little care. Supplied as and established plant in a 9cm pot and growing up to 1.5m (5ft), although it can be kept smaller through pruning.
