Plum The Czar
  • £24.99

'Czar's' pretty, dark-blue fruits look wonderful as they ripen on the tree in August each year, following its attractive and fragrant white blossom, providing a wonderful spectacle throughout spring and summer. The delicious fruits have a brilliant acidic sharpness when picked early, so they are perfect for cooking plum puddings or jam - making 'Czar' one of the most popular cooking varieties around. Wait a bit longer, though, and the fruits turn a deep, rich, almost black colour as they mature, softening in flavour and gaining a wonderful sweetness that will delight your tastebuds as you bite into the juicy, yellow-green flesh. They are simply wonderful eaten straight from the tree. 'Czar' is a rewarding tree to grow in your garden and will save you a fortune compared to supermarket plum prices. This self-fertile tree has a long life - so will supply you with delicious fruit for many years to come.

Lettuce All The Year Round
  • £3.99

If you only grow one lettuce variety, surely this is the one to choose. True to its name, 'All Year Round' can be sown at any time of the year for harvesting over a long season. This heritage variety has been a firm favourite with British vegetable growers since the middle of the 19th century. A classic 'butterhead', it produces medium-sized lettuces with loosely formed heads that have soft-textured green outer leaves and compact, crisp, creamy yellow hearts. Succulent and sweet, and a good source of minerals and vitamins A and C, its flavour and goodness easily outclass supermarket-bought lettuce. Easy to grow, 'All Year Round' is a reliable cropper that is slow to bolt, so will crop over a long season. Regular sowings made every 2-3 weeks will ensure a continuous supply. Lettuces are typically ready to pick about 10 weeks after sowing. Supplied as a packet of 800 (approx.) seeds ready to sow indoors or outdoors in their cropping position.

The Chelsea Fig Bush
  • £29.99

Many Londoners know of a fabulous and fruitful Fig Tree, growing on the banks of the Thames where Chelsea Bridge meets The Embankment. Each Summer its huge crops are joyfully plundered - either by flocks of parakeets high up in the tree - or cheeky human scrumpers lower down where it can be reached. Either way, it produces huge crops of figs every year. So well-known is this specific tree, it even featured as the main hideout in William Boyd's novel Ordinary Thunderstorms. Fruit grower Will Sibley knew of this tree, and had tasted its fruit. he took samples away to analyse, and concluded it was a chance seedling - a single and unique tree like no other variety grown. So good was the flavour and yield, he set about propagating and grafting trees to sell from it - and here we are now selling them. Now called 'The Chelsea Fig', every single tree is identical the one by the river. Get yourself a piece of London history and folklore, and grow them in your garden. Supplied as an established plant in a 4.5L pot, ready for immediate planting.
