High-yielding with crunchy flesh and a small core, this is a popular minicrop, which in so far as it is a home-grown variety, tastes much sweeter than those bought in supermarkets. It has broad wedge-shaped roots, can be harvested small and stores well. Seedlings appear within 7-21 days of planting and if continuous crops are desirable sow every 2-3 weeks. When harvesting, select alternate young carrots from the row, allowing the remainder to develop fully. Keep well watered to prevent the roots splitting. Their low rate of metabolism allows for a relatively long postharvest life. Thanks to their high water content, they are key ingredients for a low fat diet.
