Bold scarlet blooms with a delicate white edging make Gladiolus 'Baccarat' a particularly striking variety. The tall stems add stately architecture and summer colour to mixed borders.
A fascinating and stunning looking plant, this Pineapple Guava is a native of South America yet is perfectly happy here in the UK. Like a bird of paradise, its flamboyant sorbet-pink and ice-white blooms will create an exotic display from late spring to early summer, bearing sweet nectar that is loved by butterflies and bees. In autumn this stunning plant then yields delicious, tropical-tasting green egg-shaped fruits with succulent flesh - similar to a kiwi but smoother in appearance. Enjoy them fresh or bake into pies and crumbles for a special treat. Bushes are evergreen, giving year-round interest. Hardy down to at least -5°C, when mature they reach a height and spread of 1.8 m (6 ft). They are very easy to grow and are particularly suited to raising in a large pot or planter.
Not quite black but possibly the closest to it in a rose - this beauty will be admired by all in your garden with its sumptuous deep crimson-purple blooms. A 'Hybrid Tea' variety, it produces large, elegant, fragrant blooms in abundance all summer-long, from June right through to September. In bud, the flowers are the deepest chocolate maroon, which lightens as the petals unfurl, creating a real to-die-for classic rose. Borne on long strong stems, the blooms stand proud in the border and will also fill large patio containers. Originally only available to florists as cut flowers, now you can grow them in your own garden to cut and create your very own beautiful vase displays! Long-lasting, why not give a bunch to friends or family? Easy to care for and best in full sun. Like most roses prune in late winter cutting back hard to a bud as the flowers are borne on new growth that follows. Supplied as 'Grade A' bare root bush with a minimum of 3 good stems. Plant as soon as possible after receipt.
In Malaya they call it the Devil's Flower and strange, fascinating stories surround it. Originating, no doubt, from the malevolent way the eyes in the bloom seem to be following your every move!
