A striking ornamental shrub, this Conus alba, the Siberian Dogwood, forms a thicket of upright red stems. It has green foliage with oval leaves during spring and summer. Recommended by the RHS as a 'Plant for Pollinators', bees and butterflies are attracted to the clusters of lovely soft pink flowers that appear in from late spring to mid-summer. These are followed by black berries that will attract birds. In autumn the leaves take on fiery red hues before dropping to fully reveal the stems, which change from red to an intense scarlet during the winter. Rarely-seen, stunning white form of the famous Himalayan blue poppy. Pure white silky petals surround golden stamens making this a real eye-catcher, particularly as it's ideal for damp, shady borders where other plants might not thrive. The 7-10cm (3-4in) blooms are 99% true to type; very occasionally the odd blue flower may appear.
A really choice border plant! Quickly becoming established, the many, strong erect stems are topped with plumes of white and lime-green bracts, which have a maroon underside. A superb plant to give colour balance to the garden. Although biennial, this salvia may be treated as a short lived perennial if flowers are removed in second and subsequent years.
