Bay Trees are easy to care for and look simply stunning in pots either side of a door or pathway. The lush foliage has a mouth-watering flavour and rich aroma and can be added to marinades or used to add depth to cooking all year long. A well-known and popular evergreen shrub, Laurus Nobilis (Sweet Bay) is a multipurpose garden plant which is totally at home both planted in the ground or presented in a pot. Besides looking good, bay is an essential ingredient in cooking and topiary specimens really lend themselves to growing in a kitchen garden or in a pot by the kitchen door. Bring the warm glow and bright colours of the Mediterranean into your garden without the cost of a plane ticket. Mediterranean plants are a good way to create a strong focal point that will have visitors talking about and admiring for a long time. Supplied as a single bay tree at 70-80cm tall inc pot.Top Tips- Topiary is best trimmed with secateurs during summer to encourage a dense habit and to maintain a balanced shape. Prune new shoots to a bud facing in the direction of the desired growth.Care Guide- Bay trees will grow in any well-drained soil in a sunny position, and thrive in containers, as long as they are kept well-watered.- Use a soil-based compost, such as John Innes No 2, with extra grit added to improve stability of the post and help drainage as bay roots dislike sitting in wet.- Add controlled-release fertiliser granules to the pot or use a liquid feed every two week from mid-spring to late summer.- Check plants and repot every two years in spring so that the soil does not become exhausted and stale.- Bay can withstand temperatures down to -5°C, but frost and cold winter winds can damage the foliage so protect plants with fleece if temperatures are likely to fall below this. Similarly, pots can be wrapped in bubble wrap to protect them.- Any damage caused by winter cold can be pruned out in the spring.Planting Time:All yearAbout You GardenEstablished for over 50 years, our award winning trusted plant supplier are based in South Lincolnshire. The sweetly perfumed white flowers contrast beautifully against the deep green citrus-fragranced foliage, and the fruits smell simply divine - plus they're packed full of vitamin C, they're delicious and good for you too. Your trees arrive as young plants, 20-30cm tall including their 9cm pots, and are ready to grow on. Bring a little bit of the exotic into your garden while giving your health and wellbeing a boost by growing grapes, kiwis and other exotic fruits. Supplied as 3 plants, 1 x Orange 'Calamondin', 1 x Lemon 'Citron' and 1 x Lime. 20-30cm tall in 9cm pots.Top Tips- We recommend using our Soluble Citrus Fertiliser to ensure your trees grow into big, healthy specimens and, most importantly, bear lots of juicy fruit! For best results, bring indoors to cool area for winter. Feed with specialist feed every month in spring and summer growth - they are hungry fellows.Care Guide- The sweetly-fragranced flowers appear all year round, especially in late winter, and fruit ripens up to 12 months later - so plants are often in flower and fruiting at the same time.- Citrus tend not to thrive in centrally heated homes, so from mid-Jun to late September, give plants a treat and transfer them outside to make the most of the available sunshine - but remember they are not frost tolerant so will need bringing under cover if cold nights threaten.- In summer, water freely - ideally with rainwater, while in winter you can reduce the amount - allowing the surface to partially dry out before watering again. Always allow excess water to drain away.- Overwatering in winter is one of the commonest problems, so err on the dry side.- Only minimal pruning is required to reshape or remove dead or damaged shoots.Planting Time:April - SeptemberFlowering Time:March - AprilFruiting Time:NovemberAbout You GardenEstablished for over 50 years, our award winning trusted plant supplier are based in South Lincolnshire. During a hot summer, drooping bunches of creamy-yellow flowers may appear. Holding a prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit, the Canary Island date palm makes an excellent evergreen specimen plant for the patio or conservatory. Bring the warm glow and bright colours of the Mediterranean into your garden without the cost of a plane ticket. Mediterranean plants are a good way to create a strong focal point that will have visitors talking about and admiring for a long time. Supplied as a pair of mature potted plants, approx. 70-80cm tall (3ft) tall and in 15cm diameter pots. Top Tips- Despite looking like desert palms and being drought tolerant, to get best results, water them really well in spring & summer - do not let dry out.- In colder spots, bring in for winter, or tie fronds up together in a bundle to protect the centre of the palm.- If you're lucky enough to get shoots at the base of Phoenix canariensis, these can be carefully detached, along with any roots, and used for propagation. Pot each shoot in an 8cm (3 inch) pot of the standard potting mixture, place it in bright filtered light and water it sparingly-just enough to keep the mixture barely moist. After new top growth indicates that the shoot is well rooted, treat the young plant in the same way as a mature Phoenix canariensis palm.Care Guide- A slowly growing tree, Phoenix canariensis is easy to grow and care for .- Thriving in a sheltered site in full sun, with some shade at midday the Phoenix Palm is best grown on the Patio in a large pot and brought under cover in the winter.- When in growth, watering moderately and feed with a balanced fertiliser once a month at half strength. Water sparingly in winter.- If the plant becomes pot bound, pot on into containers 2.5cm (1 inch) larger when new growth starts in spring, using a compost with good drainage. In years when re-potting is not carried out, top-dress by removing 5cm (2in) of old compost from the top of the pot and replacing with fresh.- Pruning will only be needed to remove old fronds, which hang below horizontal. Do not remove those growing upright since this may slow the growth and reduce the palm vigour - remember that this palm has spines and sharp edges; use extreme caution when handling.Planting Time:March - AugustFlowering Time:June - AugustFruiting Time:SeptemberAbout You GardenEstablished for over 50 years, our award winning trusted plant supplier are based in South Lincolnshire. Even before the fruit is ripe the large shrub or small tree adds a presence to the garden as branches are clothed with large, deeply lobed leaves. It is also hardy and drought resistant. Bring a little bit of the exotic into your garden while giving your health and wellbeing a boost by growing grapes, kiwis, and other exotic fruits. Supplied as a standard form Fig tree, at 70-100cm tall, with a bout 50cm of clear stem, and a shaped 2-year-old head on top.Top Tips- Keep your fig containerised or keep the roots restricted for the best crops.Care GuidePlanting Advice for Fig Brown Turkey:- Pot-grown shrubs can be planted at any time of the year as long as the soil is not waterlogged or frozen. If in doubt, err towards spring but remember to keep pots well-watered so that the soil does not dry out.- Shrub roots generally tend to spread out rather than down, so dig a planting hole 3 x wider than the roots of the shrub you're planting, and mix some well rotted compost or manure with the soil from the hole and use this to re-fill one the shrub is in place.- We've found that a square hole is better than a round one as the new roots, once they reach the edges tend to grow in a circle round the circumference of the hole whereas when they reach the corners of a square hole, they find it easier to grow through.- Before planting soak container-grown shrubs thoroughly and allow to drain.- Remove the plant from its pot and tease out a few of the roots.- Add Mycorrhizal fungi to the roots when planting to help plants establish quicker.- Place your shrub in the hole at the same level at the pot.- Refill the hole with the earth removed (backfilling).- Firm in the soil with your heel, avoiding the root ball and water well.- Mulch around the base of the plant with a collar, compost, gravel, bark etc.- Alternatively plant in a large container filled with good quality, soil-based compost.Aftercare Advice for your Ficus:- If youre planting in spring or summer, water well and regularly for the first few months.- Once planted, keep the area free of competing weeds and grass for the first couple of growing seasons.Pruning Advice for Brown Turkey Fig:- This standard tree should be pruned to keep its shape and size. When pruning, aim for a balanced top that allows light into the centre of the canopy.- Prune twice a year:- Early spring: remove any branches that spoil the shape, or any that are crossing or damaged, along with any suckers appearing from the ground or lower stem. If needed cut back one or two branches that have become too long and bare to a 5cm (2in) stub to stimulate new growth from the base of the branch.- Early summer: pinch out the new growth at five or six leaves. Do not prune later growth.Planting Time:All yearFlowering Time:March - AprilFruiting Time:August - SeptemberAbout You GardenEstablished for over 50 years, our award winning trusted plant supplier are based in South Lincolnshire. 'Little Red Robin' is quite a new cultivar with smaller leaves, giving an even bolder and brighter red glow as the new leaves emerge and throughout the summer. What's more, in this stylish lollipop standard form, it's even more of a year-round focal point and feature too. Skilfully crafted over 4 years, this unusual format adds height to any garden, and yet is easy to maintain with a simple trim to shape each autumn. Grow in full sun for best red foliage colour and it will glow on those long summer nights. Whilst it will fade to darker green somewhat over winter, it retains a mix of red tones all year. Great for year round evergreen use(it should be ever-red!), they work well in pairs in large pots either side of doorways, gates and porches, or as a single focal point in a formal bed.Planting Time:January - JuneSeptember - NovemberFruiting Time:October - DecemberAbout You GardenEstablished for over 50 years, our award winning trusted plant supplier are based in South Lincolnshire. The stunning 'Flamingo Willow', or Salix integra 'Hakuro-nishiki' to give it it's correct botanical name, produces a stunning spring and summer ritual, bursting forth from bare branches, often with catkins on, into a mass of amazing creamy pink variegated and tipped new shoots, set against white mottled and marbled leaves, keeping that lovely contrast all summer. It is really hardy and easy to grow, simply hack it back to shape in late autumn, it is great in large pots as a feature plant, but needs to be grown where you can see it's delicate colours. It's not fussy at all for soil conditions, but do not let it dry out.Care Guide- Grow in full sun is moist, well-drained soil - willows love moisture so you can be sure that they'll be happy with a regular dousing.- Container plants especially should be kept well-watered, however don't let them sit in permanent wet.- Pruning is simply a case of a light trim in spring to reshape the canopy.Planting Time:January - JuneSeptember - NovemberFruiting Time:October - DecemberAbout You GardenEstablished for over 50 years, our award winning trusted plant supplier are based in South Lincolnshire. What's more, because it branches so well and flowers on younger plants, it is the ideal variety to grow on a standard stem, providing a wonderful rounded head of foliage and flowers that is easy to clip and maintain to that sophisticated shape. Stunning as a feature plant placed in borders where it will stand tall above all else, or perfect for pots and containers where it can be placed by a gateway, doorway or on a patio to add a touch of elegance. Flowering in summer into early autumn, Little Lime will bring colour late on in the year when the rest of the garden has begun to fade. The lovely flower panicles open bright zesty lime-green, then fade to a creamy shade which produces a unique pink tinge too, which then last well into colder months. Grow in pots or in garden soil, trim head to shape early in season before new growth and allow to flower.Planting Time:All yearFlowering Time:August - OctoberAbout You GardenEstablished for over 50 years, our award winning trusted plant supplier are based in South Lincolnshire.
