Allium Red Giant
  • £7.99

A stunning sight, 'Red Giant' is quite unlike any other allium. With its relatives renowned for their tall, stiff stems that carry flowers high above the low growing foliage, this incredible variety does the exact opposite! In May and June, the flowerhead emerges and erupts into a globe, 12 cm (5 in) in diameter, made up of dozens or small, reddish purple flowers sitting just above the broad, arching green foliage. Recommended by the RHS as a 'Plant for Pollinators', Bees and butterflies adore 'Red Giant' just as much as any other allium. An ideal and unusual plant for growing at the front of borders, it also works extremely well when planted in groups in containers, having a very architectural look when in flower. Even though the stems are short, the flowers still look great indoors and in bouquets, whether fresh or dried, and they add winter interest, and an insect habitat, if left on the plant over the winter. Alliums aren't fussy about soil type but do prefer a sunny location. They will naturalise easily, multiplying over the years. Clumps can be dug up and split every few years, which will stop them becoming congested. Supplied as 5 bulbs, size 12/14, ready to plant in autumn, growing to a height and spread of 25 cm (10 in).

Alocasia Polly Indoor Plant In 17cm Pot
  • £18.99

Alocasia ‘Polly’ is a stunning evergreen, ornamental houseplant that will make a wonderful addition to your home. The glossy, variegated arrow-like leaves are lush and heart-shaped and dark emerald green with contrasting veins and even darker undersides. Perfect for adding a tropical feel to your home. This fast growing foliage plant originates from the tropics of Asia, and prefers a shady area so when growing it in your home, give it plenty of light and water but not direct sunlight. Position it by a bright window. As well as being spectacular to look at, leafy tropical houseplants provide air-cleaning benefits. It has been found that houseplants can actually improve the environment in our homes, clearing the air, removing toxins and adding valuable oxygen to the air that we breathe. Supplied as an established plant in a 17cm nursery pot, Alocasia Polly will grow to a height of about 40cm. Please note that the decorative pot is not included.Care GuideLikes moist but well-drained soil so keep the compost moist with warm water. Do not allow the soil to dry out. Little and often is a good approach. Place by a bright window, but out of direct sunlight which will scorch the leaves. Alocasia prefers above average humidity, so stand on a pebble tray to improve humidity and mist frequently. Water with a general-purpose liquid houseplant feed once a month during the growing season. Give the plant a quarter turn every day to maximise its exposure to sunlight. A tropical plant, Alocasia needs to be kept warm (18-22C is ideal) and has a dormant period in winter when growth stops, and the leaves may fade and die back. During this period, the plants will require less water, so simply moisten the soil from time to time and rapid growth will recommence the following year. Note: Alocasia Macrorrhiza is harmful if eaten and is a skin and eye irritant to some people. Keep out of reach of children and pets. This product is offered for sale for home delivery exclusively via our website only. Aloe Vera Indoor Plant 50cm Tall In 15cm Pot
  • £16.99

A favourite with gardeners due to its forgiving nature, Aloe Vera is a desert plant and tolerates neglect and lack of water well. Well known for its ability to soothe burns with its cooling sap, this slow growing succulent has thick fleshy leaves with toothed edges that form a wide rosette over time and makes a striking plant for a bright, sunny position. A really easy-to-grow plant, this windowsill favourite can be moved outdoors during the summer to make the most of the available sunlight and warmth, although remember to keep it out of direct sunlight for a few days until acclimatised. Some people also like to use aloe vera juice as a hair conditioner, makeup remover, or even a skin tonic, and it makes a great soothing salve for minor sunburn. To use the juice, simply remove a leaf from the plant and slit it along its length, scooping out the contents with a spoon. Supplied 50cm tall including 15cm pot. Please note that the decorative pot is not included.Care GuideAloe Vera hates being wet, so water about every 3 weeks and even less during the winter. Allow the soil to dry out at least 1 to 2 inches deep between waterings - use your finger to test dryness before watering. Feed once in the spring and once in the summer with a balanced houseplant formula at half strength. Plants do like to be restricted in their pot, so repot only when root bound, using a well-drained potting mix designed for cacti and succulents. This product is offered for sale for home delivery exclusively via our website only.
