Sedum takesimense Atlantis ('Nonsitnal'), is The Chelsea Plant of The Year 2019, with organisers saying that it's 'an attractive, easy to grow, versatile and multi-functional plant.' A native of south Korea, this variegated sedum is hardy in the UK, drought-tolerant, low-maintenance and very easy-to-grow - the gardener's perfect plant! Such is its popularity, it's likely to be much in demand and with limited stock avaialable this year, make sure that you don't miss out! Perfect as ground cover, or for filling in gaps between plants, the succulent leaves of Atlantis forms a spreading mound of rosettes, reaching around half a metre or so wide. Their naturally creeping form makes them ideal for softening hard edges such as paths and walls, and they're perfect for growing in pots too. Leaves initially emerge pure cream in colour, forming a wide cushion of striking serrated green leaves bordered in cream. These are followed by frothy yellow flowers from July to September. In autumn, the plants are flushed with another colour change as the leaves take on a subtle pink blush. 'Cantor' is a highly sought-after and simply beautiful Calla lily variety, producing stunning, near black flowers each summer. Newly formed blooms are black to begin with, then unfurl slowly to reveal deep, maroon-purple trumpets. A real showstopper! Grow singly in pots about 10-15cm diameter, or all 3 in a 20cm diameter pot. For best results, they should be kept very warm and well watered once planted for 2 weeks to kick-start them out of dormancy - on a heater or an airing cupboard is fine, then once the green shoots appear, they can be placed outside. The corms are shallow, and need to be planted saucer shape up, just with a shallow 1-2cm covering of compost only. There's nothing finer than a large Agapanthus in full flower at the height of summer, creating an eruption of brilliant blue. Its the perfect plant for an ornate container and with a little care will last a lifetime. With glossy, rich green leaves laves with irregular holes, plants will trail gently over their pot if left untrained or can be treated as a climber and tied to a support. The glossy, tropical leaves of the Monkey Leaf are what makes this plant a star, easily adding a lush, exotic feel to any room. It's fascinating to watch the young leaves as the emerge tightly furled, growing longer each day before opening fully. Young leaves are solid, but as the plant matures they begin to develop the characteristic holes. Naturally a lazy climber, your plant will enjoy the support of a moss pole (not supplied) where you can push its aerial roots into the moss as they develop, helping to support it as it grows.
