These dried flowers are grown outdoors and locally to the drying facilities, and harvesting of the flowers is carried out using traditional techniques where they are collected and sorted by hand. Our florists have included a gorgeous mix of Pink Statice, Pink Gypsophila, Dark Pink Helichrysum, Pink Spray Rose, Lavender, Green Carthamus, Pink Wheat, Natural Wheat, Sylvie Pampas, Red Amaranthus and Blue Statice.
A brand new innovation for gardeners, these new Basket Starter Discs are a great option for easy gardening. The first time ever an easy solution for using beneficial microbes has been available for hanging baskets or tubs - and combined with fertiliser and water retaining gel in one simple to use disc. Created by the clever scientists that have pioneered Rootgrow, these discs are formed from compressed coir fibre, which binds in both beneficial biological microbes, and balanced slow release fertiliser -giving the perfect start to all hanging baskets, planters, tubs and windowboxes. Inserted at planting, when watered each disc swells to 5 times it's size, and the beneficial microbes will start to grow, bringing the compost to life and adding all the benefits of the natrual good microbes in the soil to the confines of a basket or tub. At the same time, the fertilsier is slowly released over several months, to give the perfect start to your plants. In addition, the water retaining crystals help prevent the compost from drying out by binding water in, reducing the amount of time and effort watering in summer. To use, half fill your basket or planter with compost, insert a disc and cover with a little more compost and plant as normal. If you want a garden plant that no-one else will have (or even recognise) then the Carolina Allspice, (Sinocalycanthus raulstonii 'Hartlage Wine') has got to be your go-to plant. An ideal choice for many gardens from woodland to moderately sunny, it is a robust, deciduous shrub with beautiful, lightly scented, maroon flowers up to 7.5cm (3-4in) across. A relatively new introduction for gardeners and a first for us here at YouGarden, 'Hartlage Wine' was first revealed at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show in 2010, where it delighted all who encountered it. The flowers themselves are a delight to see and form along the branches. They are a rich shade of burgundy red, with just a hint of cream towards their centre - simply gorgeous against the backdrop of the lustrous green foliage, which in turn transforms to buttery shades in autumn. This unusual and delightful shrub is the first successful cross between Calycanthus floridus and Sinocalycanthus chinensis, its rare Chinese counterpart, making it something really special for your garden, and a plant that will amaze all who see it! Fully hardy, plants can withstand temperatures down to -15°C (5°F) and grow best in part shade, although you can also grow this beauty in full sun if it is kept well-watered until established.
