Skimmia japonica 'Rubella' is a compact, bushy evergreen shrub with cones of red buds which open to fragrant white flowers in early spring - A classic plant for winter or spring containers where the dark, leathery leaves provide a super background for its showy flowers. All parts of this award-winning plant have a pleasant fragrance when crushed, not unlike ..... so, position them near doorways, entrances or windows so that you can appreciate the scent too. Most individual varieties of Skimmias are either male or female - 'Rubella' is male so will not produce berries - but when you see and smell the gorgeous scented flowers, they more than make up for that. Skimmia plants are slow growing, so little pruning is needed - which is great if you have little time to be messing around with secateurs and pruning manuals - in fact, it is better not to trim them at all, if possible. Working with Castle Howard, a place like no other, we have produced an arrangement designed to impress. Prestige Flowers and Castle Howard pride ourselves on supporting our British Heritage and also British Producers which is why this stunning Spring bouquet has been created using 100% British Tulips grown on local farms, helping to reduce the carbon footprint in the creation of this bouquet. Named after the 4th Countess of Carlisle and the Great Aunt of the famous Lord Byron this beautiful Tulip bouquet has been arranged to create a burst of undeniable colour of which Lady Isabella resembles in the colourful personality she had. Lady Isabella was a lady of the arts including being a talented singer, sketcher and poet of which inspiration came from the colourful gardens of Castle Howard including the many varieties of fruits and vegetables grown in the grounds that we have captured within the colours of this bouquet. Lady Isabella's portrait can still be found in Castle Howard today hanging in the Turquoise Drawing Room as painted by the famous artist Gainsborough in the home she loved dearly. Proceeds from this bouquet will be given to Castle Howard to contribute to the continued preservation and conservation of this beautiful Heritage site and to contribute to the maintenance towards the stunning grounds, to preserve heritage to be enjoyed for many years to come.
