The Sutton is a dwarf variety of broad bean which is full of nutrients and ever so easy to grow. Growing only up to 30cm high, this variety doesn't require support and is ideal for smaller gardens, growing in containers on the patio or balcony, and is also very useful in more exposed locations. Broad Bean 'Perla? is an RHS AGM variety with healthy, dark foliage. This neat little Bean is slightly taller than the well known variety 'The Sutton? but equally good for growing in patio containers. An early setting of white flowers produces a good crop of pods, each containing up to 6 bright green beans. Having been bred as a gourmet crop, the beans are delicately flavoured, and provide an excellent source of folate, fibre and vitamin B. Make successional sowings for a continuous harvest from June to August. Height: 90cm (36). Spread: 45cm (18).
A gardener’s favourite, due to is reliability, beautiful colour and unique flavour. This variety is heavy cropping, suitable for most soil types and is also ideal for freezing. For best results, pick the beans when they are starting to show through the pod and whilst the scar on the end of the bean is still white. This variety will require support from canes.
