Swags of fabulous bright yellow flowers drape along the drooping branches of the Laburnum every spring, bringing a vibrant splash of colour to the garden and out-shining every other plant nearby. The sweetly scented flowers are followed by silvery pods. Grown over an arch, the flowers of Laburnum anagyroides seem to pour down through the structure, earning it the common name of Golden Rain. With its pretty, cut foliage and spreading form, this deciduous tree looks great in all seasons. It is a fast-growing, robust tree. Some parts are poisonous. Height: 8m (26'); Spread: 8m (26').
Snowballs in summer? With big and bold round white clusters of flowers hanging from the branches in May and June, it's understandable that this magnificent shrub should be known as the Snowball Tree. The leaves of Viburnum opulus 'Roseum' turn to shades of red and purple in autumn, making a wonderful display. Unlike the species, this variety is sterile so it wont produce berries. This shrub thrives in sun or full shade, is easy to grow and maintain, and holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit. Height and spread: 4m (13').
Viburnum x globosum 'Jermyns Globe' loves the UK climate, and grows well on chalky soils and heavy clay soils and even in coastal areas that can prove difficult for many other plants. Loose branching clusters of scented white blooms appear from pink buds in spring, nicely complementing the gleaming, evergreen foliage. The fading blooms are followed by shimmer, metallic blue berries. Viburnum x globosum 'Jermyns Globe' is easy to grow, making an ideal bushy shrub or small tree. Grow it as a free-standing shrub alongside cottage garden favourites, or plant as a hedge. Height 2.5m (8.2'). Spread 3m (10').
Viburnum tinus 'Lisarose' is one of few shrubs that flowers in winter, between December and April, so it is an excellent choice for providing colour when so much of the garden is dormant. It has evergreen foliage and creamy white florets open from deep pink buds, on compact flowerheads, which are then followed by shiny black fruits. It is an ideal shrub for wide borders in larger gardens, especially those with a woodland setting. Planted in a line, Laurustinus makes a lovely hedge. Height and spread: 3m (10?).

We like to bring our customers plants that we call 'good-doers', and this lovely Viburnum certainly is that - combining four distinct periods of garden interest in one easy-to-grow hardy shrub. Awarded the Best New Plant at RHS Chelsea Flower Show in 2015, 'Kilimanjaro Sunrise' erupts into flower, with tiered layers of white lacecap blooms in April and May - giving rise to its sometimes used common name of the Wedding Cake Tree. These age a lovely blush pink, often with many overlapping tones on the plant at once. This is followed in summer by bright red berries, which help feed the birds and other wildlife, before it surprises you again with a smaller autumn re-flowering. Then, in a final blaze of glory, it sheds its bright autumn leaves, as it hibernates in preparation for another year of garden thrills.
