Look at the overall shape and aim for an open structure of branches and remove any that cross over so they don't damage each other. Trim longer new shoots back mid-summer for better shaped trees.- Harvest crops as soon as they ripen. This reliable variety is quick to mature and will crop all summer long and with regular harvesting. The abundant, dark skinned fruits of Courgette 'All green Bush' should be harvested as baby courgettes at about 10cm (4) long for the best flavour. A classic courgette, 'All Green Bush' is a reliable, quick-growing and high-yielding variety that will crop all summer long with regular harvesting. One plant will typically produce 6-10 fruits. Its compact habit makes it ideal for growing in pots or containers, or the seeds can be planted directly in the ground where they are to crop. The dark skins are tender so are great when cooked whole. For the best flavour, harvest as baby courgettes at about 10-15cm (4-6in) long. If not eaten immediately, they will keep well for a few days stored in the fridge. Alternatively, allow one or two fruits to remain longer on the plant to form marrows, which are just lovely when crammed with vegetable or meat stuffings and baked in the oven. Courgette flowers can also be eaten; use them as soon after picking as possible for best results. Try them stuffed with herbs and soft cheese, then dipped in batter and quickly fried, or wilt them in hot olive oil to add to risottos and other savoury dishes. A bushy, deciduous shrub with very dark purple foliage which contrasts well with the abundance of yellow flowers in June, Diervilla rivularis 'Troja Black' makes an ideal specimen shrub for any garden. Also known as the Georgia Bush Honeysuckle because of the shape of the flowers, it's a superb way to bring colour into your garden, the double-lipped blooms compliment perfectly the purple-bronze leaves, which turn deep red in autumn. As the flowers age, they turn a delightful yellow-coral and are a magnet to pollinators, especially butterflies. A new introduction, Troja Black spreads by sending up suckers which eventually form a decent sized clump, perfect for a massed planting. An absolute gem of a winter flowering plant, little seen but a really good winter garden plant, not grown widely enough. In late winter and early spring, before there's much colour about at all, even before daffodils, it produces intriguing yellow and cream flowers, lightly scented, smothered over bare stems, as flowers are produced before the leaves. It is a relative of the Daphne, sharing it's preference for cool, lightly shaded spots. Martin distinctly remembers being blown away by the first sight and smell of this plant, a large specimen on a remote Dutch Nursery, on a wet, windy and grey February afternoon, but finding much stock has been a challenge. Now we have some, it deserves a space in many gardens.
