Strawberry Tree - Arbutus unedo
  • £14.99

Evergreen trees that suit the British climate are few and far between and this is a perfect example of one that will give all-round interest.  With shiny, deep-green, leathery leaves, pretty cream autumn flowers and colourful fruit, the Strawberry tree deserves to be far more widely grown. This is an easy tree to grow anywhere and suits coastal regions too. It grows steadily, forming a nicely proportioned medium-sized bush, which is covered with lustrous foliage throughout the year. In autumn you'll enjoy panicles of creamy bell-shaped blooms, which are not unlike Lily of the valley in appearance and are are particularly welcome as winter approaches. The orange-red, globe-shaped fruits ripen in autumn from the previous year's flowers, giving the whole tree a very decorative look at this time of year.  Fruits are edible but sharp-tasting when raw so best left on the tree for their ornamental value - although they can be used in preserves. Supplied as an established plant in a 3L pot, ready to plant out.

All heights listed are approximate and fully established plant heights may vary. The amount of foliage, buds or bloom on the plant will depend on what part of the season the product is purchased. Please see description below for full product details.Everyone knows and loves a Buddleia for their sheer flower power and magnetic allure for butterflies - hence their common name The Butterfly Bush. Here is a new twist on a much-loved favourite - 3 separate colours on one. Our clever growers have skilfully matched 3 different coloured plants - one white, one pink and one purple blue - and grown them close together in one pot. As the plant develops, the stems intermingle, creating a most intriguing mixed colour effect which will get the neighbours talking! Retaining their magical attraction to butterflies, you can look forward to peacock and tortoiseshell butterflies aplenty this summer - and for years beyond. Buddleia is one of the most robust and easy-care shrubs to grow requiring almost no maintenance - we suggest a simple hack back to about 30cm each spring before new leaves appear, but hey, if you forget, it will be fine too! Very hardy, and disease free, grow in sunny spots or large pots.Top Tips- Buddleia plants are low maintenance, but they do benefit from pruning in early spring to maintain a nice compact plant.Care Guide- Plant Buddleia in garden borders in any moist, well drained garden soil, in full sun or semi-shade.- Alternatively grow buddleja plants in patio containers using soil-based compost such as John Innes No.3.- Prune Buddleia in March, once the hardest frosts are over, as the new growth begins to show.- Firstly, remove any dead, diseased, damaged, or weak stems, before pruning all off the remaining stems back to form a low framework.- Drought tolerant once established.Planting Time:All yearFlowering Time:July - AugustAbout You GardenEstablished for over 50 years, our award winning trusted plant supplier are based in South Lincolnshire. Aronia Arbutifolia 'Brillant' - Single Established Plant
  • £14.99

This product is offered for sale for home delivery exclusively via our website only. The images represent established plants, the supplied product may be younger. All heights listed are approximate and fully established plant heights may vary. The amount of foliage, buds or bloom on the plant will depend on what part of the season the product is purchased. Please see description below for full product details. This deciduous shrub is a relative of the pear and mountain ash and is very hardy and easy to grow. Perfect for planting in a shrub border, Aronia is also ideal when situated in a woodland garden. Dainty white flowers of Aronia ‘Brilliant’ are produced in abundance in spring and these are followed by clusters of edible red fruits and later by fiery autumn colours which all make for a fabulous specimen tree with year-round interest. Known as chokeberries because of their tart flavour, the edible berries can be eaten fresh on their own or used as an ingredient in desserts, compotes, pies, juices and tea. With a higher antioxidant levels than other berries, the bright fruits are low in sugar and also contain beneficial vitamins and minerals said to enhance overall health and wellbeing and with one of the highest levels of anthocyanins (the pigment in the berry that gives them their colour), chokeberries are becoming increasingly labelled as a superfood. As you would expect, the edible berries are a favourite with birds and the flowers are visited by early pollinators making Aronia very popular with wildlife too. Supplied as an established plant in a 3L pot ready for immediate planting.Top Tips- Pot-grown shrubs can be planted at any time of the year as long as the soil is not waterlogged or frozen. If in doubt, err towards spring but remember to keep pots well-watered so that the soil does not dry out.Care GuidePlanting Advice for your Aronia arbutifolia 'Brilliant':- Grow in full sun to partial shade in fertile, moist well-drained soil. Protect from frost and winds.- Dig a planting hole 3 x wider than the roots of the shrub you're planting and mix some well-rotted compost or manure with the soil from the hole and use this to re-fill once the shrub is in place.- We've found that a square hole is better than a round one as the new roots, once they reach the edges tend to grow in a circle round the circumference of the hole whereas when they reach the corners of a square hole, they find it easier to grow through.- Before planting soak container-grown shrubs thoroughly and allow to drain.- Remove the plant from its pot and tease out a few of the roots and add Mycorrhizal fungi to the roots when planting to help plants establish quicker.- Place your shrub in the hole at the same level at the pot and refill the hole with the earth removed (backfilling).- Firm in the soil with your heel, avoiding the root ball and water well.- Mulch around the base of the plant with a collar, compost, gravel, bark etc.- If you're planting into pots, place some old rocks, stones or gravel in the bottom of the pot for drainage and ballast.- Use the best compost you can buy and some sand or grit for drainage.Aftercare advice for Aronia 'Brilliant':- Keep plants well-watered while they establish, especially if planted up in a pot.- Fully hardy, you'll need to protect from cold winds as it is these that tend to cause the most damage to young plants.Pruning Advice for Aronia:- Aronia require no special pruning; only occasional maintenance is needed to remove any growth that has been damaged over winter.Planting Time:February - NovemberFlowering Time:April - MayFruiting Time:August - SeptemberAbout You GardenEstablished for over 50 years, our award winning trusted plant supplier are based in South Lincolnshire.
