Just imagine, glistening, snow-white berries in your garden at Christmas - looking like tiny, sparkling decorations. Callicarpa, also known as the Beauty Berry, is a fabulously decorative shrub, characterized by bunches of berries which brighten the autumn garden with a sparkling hue. Something a little different to the usually seen purple plant - 'Magical Snowstar' is covered in snow-white berries from October to November which contrast beautifully with the autumn colour changes of its leaves. Callicarpa also works well as a decorative addition to Christmas displays, and adds a touch of winter magic to flower arrangements in your home. Growing to around 2.5m (8ft) Callicarpa bodinieri 'Magical Snowstar' is a tightly branching shrub which colours up in the autumn, when the leaves turn yellow before they fall, revealing the perfect snowball berries. If you're keen to cut the stems for indoor displays, then it's best to wait until December for the best colour. If you're keen to incorporate white accents into your garden, then callicarpa is an ideal choice. With a high tolerance for most soil types, it's very easy to grow - Magical Snowstar needs very little in the way of maintenance, just plant it in partial shade and prune out any dead or damaged branches in the spring. The bright berries provide your home with a colourful accent - although wait until the berries are fully grown and have their full colour. Once in a vase, it is important that they are in a cool and not too sunny place to retain the best colour. They're long lasting too, keeping for more than a month once cut as long as you don't drown the stems - they're fine in just 4in of water with a drop of bleach in the vase. You will receive an established plant in a 3L pot, ready for planting out.
The Beauty Berry is a wonderful deciduous shrub for providing year-round interest, the culmination of which is a grand display of violet-purple berries and rosy pink foliage in autumn. The purple-tinted leaves that appear in spring are followed by small pink flowers by midsummer, attracting bees and other pollinating insects. Callicarpa bodinieri var. giraldii 'Profusion' has a prestigious RHS AGM and is both exotic and hardy, an eye-catching choice for both borders and low maintenance gardens. Its berried stems make a lovely addition to autumn flower arrangements. Height: 3m (10?). Spread: 2.5 (8?).
Sometimes it's hard for a plant to live up to its name, but Beauty Berry doesn't fail and certainly will not let you down! An absolute knock-out, Callicarpa is grown for its long-lasting display of metallic-purple, almost jewel-like berries that cling in dense clusters to bare branches between autumn and late winter. An award-winning plant, this desirable shrub has received both the RHS Award of Garden Merit, and the RHS accolade of a Plant for Pollinators, making it a reliable and wildlife-friendly plant for the garden. In spring its young foliage is tinged a lovely shade of bronze before turning dark green, while summer interest is provided by a mass of delicate pink flowers. Then, before the berries come into their own, the dark green foliage puts on a fiery show in the autumn, turning golden and red Excellent grown alongside other shrubs in a sunny or slightly shaded position, this bushy deciduous plant grows to around 3m, but can be kept more compact by pruning. An absolute garden must-have, plant a few callicarpas together to get a bumper crop of berries!. Supplied as an established plant in a 3L Pot, plants will grow to approx. 1.8m.
