Long Cane Raspberries are your opportunity to benefit from a massive breakthrough in Raspberry fruit production! Raspberries usually produce their fruit on the previous year's growth of canes. However, they are often sold in garden centres cut back as short canes - great value, but you have to wait an extra year for fruit. Now, with Long Canes you will get fruit in the first season, because they have not been cut back - they are harvested at about 1m or taller and will fruit this summer. A great garden variety, not too vigorous, yet fruiting early to mid-season in July and August and producing good bright red sweet fruits. You will get around a pound of fruit or more per cane for 4-5 years. These raspberries will fruit on the full length of the canes you receive so do not prune them down when you plant them! If space is at a premium, grow them in large pots in a wigwam form it will look great and also produce massive amounts or fruit in the minimum of space! Otherwise, plant in rows about 60cm (2ft) apart, using supporting wires for easier fruit picking. Take advantage of new Long Cane Raspberry production techniques for bigger and quicker crops. Supplied as Long-Canes, approx. 85-100cm tall which means you will get fruit this year!
The large spreading nature of this deciduous shrub provides impact and structure to a garden, used predominantly as a specimen plant. Weigela ?Candida? has tall arching stems which give it a real presence and should be given plenty of space to allow the branches to arch to the ground, which in May through to June are covered with elegant, tubular white flowers. The nectar rich blooms make this an excellent choice for wildlife gardens, attracting a vast array of pollinating insects. Height and spread: 2.5m (8?).
This easy to grow Coleus Canina keeps cats, dogs, rabbits and foxes away from your garden, also known as the ?Scaredy Cat? Plant. It produces an odour that cats in particular find offensive. It will be at its most effective when planted in a sunny spot, because the odour gets stronger the hotter leaves become ? fortunately the odour is barely obvious to humans! Coleus Caninai is easy to grow and will thrive on neglect as it is a naturally drought tolerant plant. It even produces attractive blue flowers during the summer months and early autumn. Height: 45cm (18).
Calycanthus Duo, has two varieties with gorgeous clematis-like flowers and glossy dark green foliage on gentle arching branches.
This unusual shrub is rarely ever seen and is the only species in its genus. Rhodotypos scandens is native to China and grown for its single white cup-shaped flowers that emerge from the tips of each arching shoot in late spring, followed by large black berries up to 8mm across. It is a deciduous shrub with an upright to slightly arched habit, remaining compact. Ideal for sunny borders or woodland edges. Height and spread: 150cm (59?).
A truly dramatic garden plant, a close relative of borage, it produces the most spectacular tall flower spikes seemingly from nowhere in summer. Despite its common name of 'Pride of Madeira', it is hardy in the UK down to -5C or so, particularly where it is drier in winter. It is biennial, so needs one cold winter after germination to flower - so these plants will flower in their first year and beyond. Once your echium has established and flowered, it will self-seed prolifically and, unless we have a really harsh winter, you will never have to plant another as you will always have plenty of seedlings! E. candicans will grow to around 1m (3ft) in its first year, then in its second, it produces its magnificent flower - in milder areas the plants keep growing all year around and, after a frost-free winter, you will see enormous flower spikes. Expect flowering spikes in July or later. Although plants are hardy when kept dry, leaves can still be damaged by frost and cold winds, and the cold will kill plants that are in wet ground, so protect plants over winter with fleece or similar product. A common sight in Cornwall as well, Echiums are best grown in very well drained soils, or in large pots with plenty of sand or grit for drainage. When it does grow in spring, keep it well watered between May and August as it grows quickly. Echiums self-seed over a small area, and once these seedlings have germinated and over-wintered, they too may flower away, and a little colony will appear. Truly spectacular and one of the best plants that you can grow to attract pollinating insects into your garden.
Producing huge creamy white flower heads set against dark green foliage, this fabulous variety is a superb alternative to traditional Marigolds. Exceptionally free flowering, it is the perfect addition to your borders, bed and patio pots.
These stunning ruffled Pansies come in a range of pastel colours with dark centres and offer a long flowering period from April to October. Everyone loves Pansies, no garden is quite complete without their cross little faces!
Dieffenbachia plant known also as the “Dumb Cane” makes an excellent tropical houseplant. It has big showy variegated leaves to add a ‘jungle’ touch to any room. It’s a hardy plant and will reward you with a long lifespan if properly cared for so a great beginner plant for those looking to grow their indoor plant collection. This variety “compacta” as the name suggest grows to around 24-28 inches when fully mature while others can go to 4-5 feet. Light and Water In terms of difficulty and its requirements, it is one of the easiest indoor houseplants you’ll ever have the pleasure of caring for and maintaining. It grows no matter the month or season. It survives in light shade but will do best in bright indirect light. When it comes to watering, water thoroughly and allow the soil to approach thoroughly dry before watering again. It’s also important to note that the leaves, if chewed or eaten, can cause temporary swelling of the tongue and throat, leading to a temporary loss of speech and the common plant name of Dumb Cane. While this is usually not serious, it can cause suffocation. Avoid placing the Dumb Cane plant where curious children or pets might be tempted to taste it.
