They don't like dry roots, so water regularly and deeply. Daphne will establish best if planted in the spring when the soil is warm - from March to October. Dig a hole twice the width of the rootball. Sprinkle in a handful of blood, fish and bone and work into the ground. If your soil is heavy add plenty of well rotted compost to the area and dig it in well. Horticultural sand/grit added to the mix is also beneficial. Place the plant into the hole, back-filling so that it is at the same depth as was in the pot. Fill around the root ball and firm the soil down gently but firmly. - Water well. - Grated plants should be planted with the join a couple of centimetres below the soil level. Add perfume and colour to your garden with this rare, yellow-flowered, deciduous daphne. Slow but steady growing, this is a bushy shrub with lush green foliage that is covered with pretty clusters of yellow flowers from late spring to summer. Bees and other insects love visiting the flowers which are followed in late summer by attractive red berries.

Daphnes are widely grown for thneir amazing flower displays in the depths of Winter, and this species, Daphne mezereum, is one of the most robust and easy to grow. From it's bare stems of Autumn and early Winter, it erupts into a mass of deep rose-pink flowers that smother the stems from top to bottom, followed by deep red berries as Spring rolls forward. It will produce mid green leaves all Summer, til Autumn. Grow in the garden soil (they dont like being in pots for long), but as they only reach 4ft x 3ft, they are a compact shrub even when mature, so perfect for all sizes of garden.
