One of the finest shrubs you can grow for spectacular winter colour from both leaves and red berries - this is a plant that should be in everyone's winter garden. Also known as the sacred or heavenly bamboo, Nandina is totally winter-hardy and tough as old boots! If your soil is heavy add plenty of well rotted compost to the area and dig it in well. Horticultural sand/grit added to the mix is also beneficial. Place the plant into the hole, back-filling so that it is at the same depth as was in the pot.
