The Asplenium ‘Birds Nest’ is a wide leafed Asplenium, adding a decorative touch to your home or office. These lush, tropical ferns form nest-like rosettes, with leaves emerging in a circular pattern from the centre of the plant hence their name. The glossy fronds are highly efficient at converting CO2 into oxygen and cleaning the air. It is also one of the longest living pot plants and extremely easy to look after, making it excellent value for money. Light and Water Bird's Nest Ferns thrive in medium to bright indirect light and tolerate low light as well. Avoid direct sunlight and deep shade. They do not like hot dry conditions, so mist regularly if your home isn’t very humid. Water when the top two inches of the soil is dry to touch, and water just enough to fully saturate. This will keep the soil moist throughout without it sitting in water. Allow water to drain freely.

Protect from frost and winds when young- Dig a planting hole 3 x wider than the roots of the shrub you're planting and mix some well-rotted compost or manure with the soil from the hole and use this to re-fill once the shrub is in place.- We've found that a square hole is better than a round one as the new roots, once they reach the edges tend to grow in a circle round the circumference of the hole whereas when they reach the corners of a square hole, they find it easier to grow through.- Before planting soak container-grown shrubs thoroughly and allow to drain.- Remove the plant from its pot and tease out a few of the roots then add Mycorrhizal fungi to the roots when planting to help plants establish quicker.- Place your shrub in the hole at the same level at the pot and refill the hole with the earth removed (backfilling).- Firm in the soil with your heel, avoiding the root ball and water well.- Mulch around the base of the plant with a collar, compost, gravel, bark etc.- If you're planting into pots, place some old rocks, stones or gravel in the bottom of the pot for drainage and ballast. Most Magnolia are pink or shades thereof, so this rare and fabulously unique hybrid 'Yellow Bird' really is unusual. Magnolia Yellow Bird bears the most wonderful huge lemon-yellow flowers, sometimes streaked lime green, emerging just before the deep green leaves unfurl in the spring. Easy to grow, it's hardy to -15C (although best to avoid windy sites) and with just a little prune to shape will form a nice, low maintenance, medium sized specimen garden tree. Not just a plant for the garden, you can also plant up in a large patio container and place by a doorway, gateway or pathway where it will make a superb eye-catching feature, or on a patio where you can really enjoy the beauty. Supplied as an established plant in a 3Lpot,ready for immediate planting.Top Tips- Plant magnolias in a sunny or semi shaded position with protection from cold winds and hard spring frosts. Magnolias prefer a rich, moist, well drained, acid to neutral soil so incorporate plenty of well-rotted manure or garden compost to improve the soil prior to planting. Magnolia plants establish quicker when their roots are shaded so apply a mulch of rotted bark chips, manure or garden compost after planting, taking care not to mound it around the stem of the plant.Care Guide- When planting, choose your site carefully as magnolias dislike being moved.- Dig a hole twice the width of the roots, forking over the bottom to loosen the soil, and add some good quality fertiliser such as Blood Fish & Bone.- Aim to plant at the same depth as it was in the pot.- Holding the tree or plant upright in position with one hand, slowly backfill the hole with soil- Use your heel to compact the soil around the plant to ensure good contact around the roots.- If you're planting into pots, place some old rocks, stones or gravel in the bottom of the pot for drainage and ballast and use the best compost you can buy - an equal mix of ericaceous compost with John Innes No. 3 is ideal.- For tall trees and shrubs, we highly recommend using our Tree Planting Kit.
