Yew is an English native, and forms superb, dense hedges from 1m to 3m or more, providing excellent screening, almost total shelter from wind and weather and excellent privacy. An evergreen conifer that is easy to manage, it grows at 20-30cm a year, quicker than many people think. It responds well to frequent trimming, yet can be cut just once a year in late summer too. Although plants can grow very large (they are trees after all), by planting them close and clipping every year, you can maintain them at a very respectable height. Potted plants can be planted any time fo the year, at 4 plants per liner Metre of hedge. Do not trim for 2 years after planting. Buy as many as you need for no extra P&P.

Best used to produce hedges from 1m to 3m tall and quickly forming a dense canopy of shiny green leaves, Laurel grows at 30-40cm (1ft) per year, but will not take over. Easy to grow and maintain, just trim to shape and height twice a year. Suitable for planting all year round, as it is pot grown, for the quickest and most successful establishment. If you love the taste of cherries, the classic sweet cherry aromatic flavour of Cherry ' Regina' is the perfect variety for you to grow in your garden. 'Regina' produces slightly flattened, dark-red fruit in June and July each year, following a beautiful show of pure-white blossom in spring. The deep-red flesh of these cherries tastes incredible! This top-quality, self-fertile tree is grown on dwarfing rootstock and will reliably produce bumper crops each year, remaining compact enough for even small gardens. A real garden winner.
It's hard to beat the sleek and simple lines of well-trimmed quality Buxus, adding a modern yet classic look to any garden. Used for centuries as a classic garden hedge or to form borders around other planting such as roses, Buxus sempervirens is a well-loved and instantly recognised feature of both formal and contemporary gardens. Equally at home in small or large gardens, box hedging is perfect for edges, borders and small boundaries, and makes neat hedges 1m tall over 10 years if required, although can be kept much smaller if needed. Whether dressing either side of a classic porch, or as a feature in minimalist decking gardens, it's hard to think of another easy to grow, yet versatile plant as good as Box. Supplied as an established plant in a 9cm pot, these 15-20cm plants are 3 years old and trimmed several times to give really bushy plants that make growing a box hedge easy. Plant one plant per 25cm (10in) for best results. Totally hardy too, leave them out all year - they look great covered in snow too! The key with Box is not to let them dry out - especially when in full sun for much of the day. Keep the roots cool and well-watered and they will grow 10-15cm per year. Do not trim for 2-3 years after planting, then lightly tip in summer as needed.
'Madonna' is an extremely popular variety of aubergine, bearing particularly tasty, long oval fruits with wonderfully deep purple, glossy skins all summer from July. As a grafted aubergine that begins to ripen early, 'Madonna' crops heavily and continuously throughout the season whether grown in a greenhouse of a large patio pot. One of the main benefits of grafting is that the plants produce heavier crops over a longer period and have excellent resistance to pests and diseases, making them easy to grow and reliable performers. 'Madonna' will thrive in a greenhouse or on the patio in a warm and sheltered spot with regular watering and feeding. You'll be rewarded with a delicious harvest of aubergines that taste great when fried, grilled or baked and are a rich source of B vitamins and potassium as well as minerals and fibre. The only surviving member of an ancient species of tree, Ginkgo biloba is often referred to as a living fossil with some preserved specimens dating back 270 million years! Thought to have been extinct, it was rediscovered in China in the late 17th Century and soon distributed around the world in both urban and rural gardens and streets. Also known as the Maidenhair Tree, for gardeners, Ginkgo is possibly one of the most attractive and useful trees that you can plant in your garden with its attractive roughly conical shape and fan-shaped leaves which turn yellow in autumn. The distinctive, deciduous leaves of Ginkgo biloba give a hint at its ancient heritage being very basic in structure. The curious frilled lobes resemble a duck's foot and take on buttery tones in the autumn before fallen suddenly - often within a few days. A tree that enjoys full sunshine and most soil types, Ginkgo is easy to grow and can even be grown in a pot on your patio or balcony. They adapt well to a restricted root system and are extremely resistant to pruning, so our growers have been able to create this beautiful standard plant with its ball of foliage - testament to their resilience. Ginkgo 'Mariken' is more of a recent introduction to the family and is one of the best Ginkgoes for a large container having a very slow rate of growth. Gingkoes are dioecious in that there are both male and female plants. As well as its stunning autumn colour, older female Ginkgo trees may produce large, sunshine-coloured fruits in warm summers. These have a distinctive aroma and, along with the leaves, are often used in traditional Chinese medicine - indeed if you search the internet, you'll see endless reference to supplements and anecdotal health benefits ranging from memory cures to a longer life. While the health claims may remain unproven, something that we do know is that Ginkgo absorbs pollutants, with a number of studies proving that they are great at absorbing Carbon and other nasties from the air, making them a favourite of town planners for fighting urban pollution with the potential to improve local air quality.
