Lilac Syringa Palibin Standard

This product is offered for sale for home delivery exclusively via our website only. The images represent established plants, the supplied product may be younger. All heights listed are approximate and fully established plant heights may vary. The amount of foliage, buds or bloom on the plant will depend on what part of the season the product is purchased. Please see description below for full product details.A stunning addition to add to your patio, this fantastic new dwarf Lilac is just the thing for small gardens or for sprucing up patios and decking areas in a large pot! Ideal for adding colour, fragrance and a beautiful twist on other Lilac varieties that can often take over your garden, this ‘double flowering’, compact lilac will bloom first in May, flush through summer, then reach a second crescendo of colour in September. Because Palibin is a dwarf variety of the classic lilac, it won’t take over your beds and borders and will not grow too tall meaning you can really enjoy the beautiful flowers and fragrance with very little maintenance required. A deadheading of faded flowers will keep the lilac flowering for as long as possible, and there’ll be little to no pruning needed thanks to its dwarf and compact nature. It’s slow growing, easy to care for, perfect for pots and very hardy too - why not try growing as a fragrant flowering hedge for something a little bit different?!This plant has been skilfully fashioned into an impressive standard by the grower and will make an instant specimen in your garden. Height 80-100cm (33-36in).Top Tips- Pot-grown shrubs can be planted at any time of the year as long as the soil is not waterlogged or frozen. If in doubt, err towards spring but remember to keep pots well-watered so that the soil does not dry out.Care Guide- Grow lilac plants in fertile, well drained soil in full sun.- Palibin standards can be grown in containers if you wish using a soil based compost such as John Innes No.3.- Feed and water regularly throughout the growing season while young plants become established.- Lilac can be pruned in winter or spring by removing any damaged, diseased or misplaced stems before lightly shaping to retain the standard form and height. In mid-summer, faded flowers can be removed from the plants.- After pruning, apply a mulch of well-rotted manure or compost to the base of the lilac.- To Plant- Shrub roots generally tend to spread out rather than down, so dig a planting hole 3 x wider than the roots of the shrub you're planting, and mix some well rotted compost or manure with the soil from the hole and use this to re-fill one the shrub is in place.- We've found that a square hole is better than a round one as the new roots, once they reach the edges tend to grow in a circle round the circumference of the hole whereas when they reach the corners of a square hole, they find it easier to grow through.- Before planting soak container-grown shrubs thoroughly and allow to drain.- Remove the plant from its pot and tease out a few of the roots.- Add Mycorrhizal fungi to the roots when planting to help plants establish quicker.- Place your shrub in the hole at the same level at the pot.- Refill the hole with the earth removed (backfilling).- Firm in the soil with your heel, avoiding the root ball.- Water well.- Mulch around the base of the plant with a collar, compost, gravel, bark etc.Planting Time:All yearFlowering Time:May - SeptemberAbout You GardenEstablished for over 50 years, our award winning trusted plant supplier are based in South Lincolnshire. This stunning Ceanothus Repens, also called 'Californian Lilac', has been skilfully grown to form a tall standard tree for instant impact. After flowering, their deep green evergreen foliage will provide year-round interest too, and is easily clipped to shape once a year. Hardy to about -8C they will be happy left outdoors in all but the severest of winters, continuing to perform in your garden year after year. Great as a pair in large pots framing doorways, gateways or around patios.Top Tips- Remove faded blooms to keep your standard tree tidy.- Cut back new growth to healthy leaf sets while it is actively growing to control the shrub's size. Do not cut branches that are more than 1 inch in diameter.Care Guide- To keep your standard tree looking at its best, remove any side shoots (laterals) from the trunk of the young tree in the winter. Any weak or competing shoots can also be removed from the top of the tree if needed.- By keeping your standard tree in its pot, you can limit its size and keep it manageable. Spring is the best time to repot potted standards.- Repot your standard tree every other year. Use the same pot if you want to keep it at its current size, or up to 5cm (2in) bigger is you would like to grow it on a bit more.- Remove the plant from its pot and trim off any rotten roots or roots that are winding around the outside of the root ball.- Cut away the bottom one-third of the root ball using a pruning saw and replant using fresh potting soil or compost.Planting Time:February - AprilFlowering Time:April - JuneAbout You GardenEstablished for over 50 years, our award winning trusted plant supplier are based in South Lincolnshire.
