Already 5 years old, they are great for adding a modern twist to gardens, especially when grown in metallic or modern containers. Their regular swirled pattern of leaves form the slow growing trunk, creating a unique look for gardens. The bigger the plant, the hardier they are - these can withstand a -7C winter ok, but we always suggest frost protection fleeces or wrapping, or bring into a garage or porch for during the coldest winters. Water them well in summer when they are growing and they will grow 10-15cm a year here in the UK. Cut off any dead leaves at the bottom, and that is what forms the trunk. The number one choice for a modern and exoic touch for UK gardens.

With burgundy-and-apricot-coloured leaves, the Cordyline 'Charlie Boy' is a splendid plant for the patio thanks to its compact nature and evergreen foliage. Over time, it will develop a distinctive silhouette thanks to its string stem that will become more noticeable as the older leaves ta the bottom shed. An ideal specimen for growing in pots on patios and balconies, why not experiment and make a real tropical paradise by growing them alongside other tropical plants such as cannas, and broad-leaved Zantedeschias. Over time, your cordyline will grow and branch into a small, evergreen tree resembling a palm - hence cordyline's other name of cabbage palm - creating a unique look all year-round and for many years, adding colour to your garden when all else begins to fade. Easy to grow, cordylines need little maintenance and pruning is limited to removing any dead leaves in the spring. Able to withstand a -7C winter, we do however suggest frost protection with fleeces or wrapping or bringing it into a garage or porch during the coldest months. Plant in a pot and grow outside through the summer before moving to a protected space such as a greenhouse or conservatory for the winter. As plants mature, they become more frost hardy so can be left outside in all but the coldest weather and will withstand all but severe frost. Supplied as an established plant in a 17cm pot, standing at approx 60-70cm tall, ready to plant.
Cordyline ‘Mambo’ is a wonderfully colourful tropical foliage plant, with lovely glossy maroon tinged leaves that branch off a central stem. They form in a manner similar to Dracaena (they are both members of the same family), with their lower leaves dying to encourage new growth as the plant develops, so some light pruning will be needed throughout the year. Just tug at the dying leaves when they looked withered or brown, they should pull easily if it is their time to go. Cordyline's are great plants which brighten up any corner of a room or an office environment. Light and Water For best results, this plant requires free draining medium fertile soil and placed in a partial sun position, avoid direct sunlight. The plant does like light, but not strong, midday sunshine. In summer you can water freely and feed weekly but in winter water sparingly. This tropical plant needs very high humidity. That is why we spray the leaves at least once per week. This prevents the leaf edges from drying out. Always keep the potting soil moist, without letting the plant stand in water.
A spectacular cordyline with striking, broad sword-like leaves, 'Burgundy Spire' will bring stunning contrast to your garden planting. The leaves are an incredibly dark burgundy purple and this stunning evergreen shrub will bring a sultry, dark and exotic look to your garden. When planted in borders, the colour will make all of the plants around it really stand out, especially those with bright flowers in shades or orange, blue and red and white. Like all cordylines, also known as cabbage palms, 'Burgundy Spire' is wonderfully architectural, and looks superb growing in a statement planter on a patio or either side of a gate or doorway, and will eventually forming a trunk as it grows upwards and sheds its lower leaves and begins to look like a small palm tree. Once mature 'Burgundy Spire' will produce clusters of small, sweetly scented creamy white flowers that are attractive to bees and butterflies, followed in autumn by berries that birds love to eat. Although hardy to around -7°C (19°F), we recommend that you provide your cordyline with protection during the coldest winter weather, either by tying up the leaves and wrapping in fleece, or bringing pot grown plants under cover.
