Loved for its free standing habit and large, daisy-like blooms, Echinacea 'Magnus' is a compact variety of Cone Flower, perfect for growing at the front of borders amongst other perennials. Particularly attractive to bees and butterflies, the fiery-red, cone shaped centres of the flowers are surrounded by attractive pink, daisy-shaped petals. The seed heads look particularly attractive in winter and the seeds provide food for birds, so no part of this plant is left to waste. Ideal for use as cut flowers, with a flowering period from July right through summer. Height: 45cm (18). Spread: 30cm (12).

Sow outdoors where they are to flower. Before sowing, prepare the ground well by raking until the soil is fine and crumbly and remove any large stones. Sow 1.5mm (1/16) deep, in rows 30cm (12) apart, or scatter seed in beds or borders as a gap filler and lightly cover over. Thin out the seedlings when they are large enough to handle, to about 20cm (8) apart.
