Everyone loves fresh Rhubarb in their garden, and it's one of the easiest things to grow on a kitchen garden. But, it has one drawback - it throws masses of lovely succulent new stems in Spring for a Month, then that's pretty much it...... feast and famine. That's because all Rhubarb plants till now go dormant in Summer. Now, we are pleased to introduce a very special British bred variety called 'Livingstone' - which is a day-neutral variety so eliminates this Summer dormancy - this means it produces stems in Spring, but then keeps on going into Summer with bigger crops again in Autumn - giving a bountiful supply for 6 Months or more. The flavour is good and sweet, and is a very easy to grow and long lasting plant - the crown will slowly expand over many years producing more and more 'stocks' for you to harvest. Sometimes called split rocks or pebble plants, living stone plants are extremely drought-resistant and are widely popular in low-water gardens in desert regions. Lithops are fascinating little succulents. The living stone plant is very sensitive to the seasons of the year but can live for decades. Lithops have no true stem and much of the plant is beneath the soil surface. All that’s visible above the ground’s surface is usually a pair of fleshy, succulent leaves that look like stones, with a crevice between them. These leaves have window-like cells on the leaf surfaces. These transparent areas are filled with calcium oxalate, which creates a reflective facet that increases light penetration. They can be grown both indoors and outdoors, but outdoor growers should be careful that they don’t get too much water. They thrive in desert condition with infrequent moisture and intense sunlight. Therefore, mimicking Lithops growing condition is important to keep them healthy. Light and Water Indoors you can keep them anywhere from direct sunlight to partial shade. Be very careful, when growing living stones, not to overwater. These little succulents do not need to be watered in their dormant season, which is autumn to spring. During spring to summer, the trick is to water only when the soil is thoroughly dry (test by inserting a wooden skewer into the soil, and check if it's moist when removed). When you do, drench it and allow it to dry completely before watering again. If you feel like you need to water a little bit due to any signs of shrinkage in the leaves, its best to do a little at a time and in the mornings so it can evaporate if its overwatered.

We were blown away when we saw these simply beautiful Living Willow sculptures - combining fabulous designs with easy care gardening, for amazing garden impact. Superb as a garden feature plant, each sculpture is hand-made, so varies slightly form pot to pot, from living, but dormant Willow stems, skilfully woven into stunning designs. Once planted inot the pot, they begin to root away, and then in Spring produce a crown of leaves on top. The overall effect of a stunning trunk effect, and leaves on top creates a magical look. Grow them on into larger pots, or plant direct into the ground, over a number of years, the individual stems gradually grow into each other and merge into one exotic lattice trunk. They are reasonably straight forward to care for over rmany years. Cut back top growth hard in early Spring, then try to shape 2 or 3 times in Summer. Remove any leaves that occasionally appear on the bare stems. NB: Heights quoted are height of stems above pot, before leaves grow. When the willow is first planted you can't water it enough! Keep well watered until it has formed a good clump of root.
