There really is something special and iconic about English shrub roses, which is the term for the old-fashioned type of classic rose with a centre filled with ruffled petals making the most remarkable patterns. New breeding over many years has made the modern varieties much easier to grow in all gardens - big or small - either in larger pots or in borders and beds. This gorgeous soft-yellow variety has been bred to have both a good fragrance and superb disease resistance - not always possible with roses, but our growers have managed it! Best of all, it is a repeat flowerer, and will bloom for 4-5 months with little deadheading, although you may wish to keep them tidy. 'Barnsley Baby' is a fabulous lavatera and a dwarf variety of a classic cottage garden favourite, bred to be considerably smaller than its full-sized relatives. It has a naturally compact form, but its flowers are just as large and, incredibly, are even more abundant than any other variety. The candyfloss pink strings of flowers open in succession from the bottom to the top of the stems between July and October, so this beautiful shrub is constantly covered in buds and freshly opened flowers, giving the look of an extravagant flower arrangement. Lavateras, also known as Mallows, are traditionally large, vigorous plants that produce long stems covered in lovely, large open flowers in white or shades of pink. They are incredibly attractive to bees and a host of other pollinating insects, so if you want to do your bit to save our wildlife, planting any variety of Lavatera in your garden will certainly help. 'Barnsley Baby' only reaches a third of the size of most other varieties, making it perfect for growing in pots. It'll be completely happy in a 30 cm (1 ft) diameter planter in a sunny location where it will flower its little heart out in late summer, just as many other flowering plants are beginning to slow down. Incredibly easy to grow and look after, all that's required is plenty of water and a monthly feed, followed by cutting back hard each spring to encourage lush, bushy new growth which will look gorgeous even before the show stopping flower stems begin to appear, teasing you as the buds swell and being to burst open. Simply add the soil into the special planting basket, add the plant, cover with gravel and your Water Lily is ready to add to your pond. Bare root perennials are already full-sized plants, allowing you to enjoy good growth and crop in the first year. No need to wait as long to see your favourite blooms which will return year after year. Kit includes a yellow water lily (Nymphaea chromotella), planting basket, top quality aquatic soil and decorative gravel. Top Tips- Water lilies flourish in still water, so do not plant them near a pond pump or fountain. As these Lilies are dry-packed, young plants, they need starting off gently. Initially, place the filled baskets on a shallow shelf of the pond, where only the top of the plant is at the water line, and allow it to establish.- Alternatively, set them up submerged in a decorative pot or planter on your decking or patio to start, then, when established, move them into the pond.Care Guide- The mesh container is specially designed to allow water to circulate through the compost, providing the plants with both oxygen and nutrients.- To plant up, add 1/3 of the soil to the basket and place the lily on top, spreading its roots.
