Very easy to care for, once you have found the perfect place for your Ficus, you can more or less leave it alone and let it do its 'thing' as long as it's kept out of draughts. Houseplants are an easy way to uplift your decor without having to get the paint roller out! They can brighten the dullest of corners and make an attractive focal point. Reconnect with nature through nurturing your own indoor garden, a relaxing way to reduce stress and optimise your wellbeing. Supplied as an established plant 90cm tall in a 21cm pot. Please note that the decorative pot is not included. Top Tips- Once it has found the right place, don't move your fig around as they dislike disturbance.Care Guide- Find a bright spot away from direct sunlight, not close to a radiator or other heat source, and away from draughts.- Water with tepid water when the soil is just starting to dry out on the surface, but don't let it dry out completely - during the winter you can reduce watering.- Mist the leaves in the summer months, and feed with a liquid fertiliser during the growing season.- If your Ficus benjamina begins to lose its leaves it may be too dry or in a draught. Plunge the pot into a bucket of water for an hour to let it soak and then move in front of a light window.About You GardenEstablished for over 50 years, our award winning trusted plant supplier are based in South Lincolnshire. No prizes for guessing where they get their name from - their classic spring flowers zing with intense colour. Usually red, this is the first widely available pink, and what a neon-pink it is too! Each flower is made up of thousands of thin stamens, each pollen rich, so become a mecca for bees and butterflies early in the season. Flowering in spring, it is great to attract early season pollinators to fruit - and sometimes has a mini flush of flowers again in autumn. Grow in a pot in a warm and sunny spot, in a well-drained mix. Although hardy to -5C or so, we would advise some winter protection, as early leaves and growth can be damaged.Top Tips- Callistemon will flower best when grown in full sun in moist but well drained soil in a sheltered position away from cold winds.- Outdoors, Callistemon (Bottlebrush) look great in mixed borders especially if combined with other drought tolerant plants such as salvias and lavenders.Care GuidePlanting Advice for Callistemon Bottlebrush:- Generally unfussy as to soil, poor soil benefits from the addition of plenty of organic matter.- Once established plants don't need special attention and are generally problem-free.- Pot-grown trees can be planted at any time of the year as long as the soil is not waterlogged or frozen.- Dig a square planting hole 3 x wider than the roots of the shrub you're planting and mix some well-rotted compost or manure with the soil from the hole and use this to re-fill once the shrub is in place.- Before planting soak container-grown shrubs thoroughly and allow to drain.- Remove your Callistemon from its pot and tease out a few of the roots.- Add Mycorrhizal fungi to the roots when planting to help plants establish quicker.- Place your tree in the hole at the same level at the pot, refill, firm, and water well.- Mulch around the base of the plant.- Plants can also be grown in a pot using a good quality soil-based compost.Aftercare Advice for your Bottlebrush:- Although drought-tolerant, Callistemon requires regular watering.- Feed with a general-purpose liquid feed in the growing season and top dress in the spring.- Callistemon can get out of hand under glass so restrictive pruning may be necessary to keep their shape.- Hardy in the UK down to -4°C! In very exposed sites, a fleece cover and mulch will see them safely through the winter. Potted plants can be moved to a cool conservatory or greenhouse.Pruning Advice for Callistemon:- Lightly prune after flowering to keep them under control, cutting just behind the spent bloom.- Callistemons in general don't like hard-pruning, so just remove spent flowerheads immediately after flowering, or trim new growth to maintain shape.Planting Time:March - AugustFlowering Time:March - MayAbout You GardenEstablished for over 50 years, our award winning trusted plant supplier are based in South Lincolnshire. The show begins in spring, when the deep burgundy-purple, cup-shaped flowers burst from their buds in May. With an unusual form, they consist of 6 petals - 3 outer and 3 inner - giving a delightful show that always gets attention. These are followed in hot summers by oval, edible fruits that colour up from yellow to a rich ochre - think of the colour of a ripe banana. The long lime-green leaves then dominate the show, gradually turning golden-yellow before falling in the autumn. Tasting like a cross between a banana and a mango, pawpaw is said to have a sweet custard-like flavour which makes them a great delicacy - however, you're unlikely to see them commercially grown as plants can be male, female or hermaphroditic. Although they have both male and female reproduction parts, they are not self-pollinating and need pollination from another unrelated pawpaw tree. Hardy to -10C, the Pawpaw benefits from a warm position in the garden such as a sheltered, south-facing wall where it is best grown as an ornamental multi-stemmed shrub. While plants can reach up to 8m in their native US, they're more likely to attain a modest 4m here in the UK.Supplied as an established plant in a 3L pot ready for immediate planting.Top Tips- Pot-grown shrubs can be planted at any time of the year as long as the soil is not waterlogged or frozen. If in doubt, err towards spring but remember to keep pots well-watered so that the soil does not dry out.Care GuidePlanting Advice for your Asimina triloba Pawpaw tree:- Grow Paw Paw in a sunny, sheltered site in well-drained, preferable acid soil. Protect from frost and winds.- Paw paw trees need well-draining soil that is high in organic matter so if your soil is heavy, then you can improve drainage by adding sand or grit.- Dig a planting hole 3 x wider than the roots of the shrub you're planting and mix some well-rotted compost or manure with the soil from the hole and use this to re-fill once the shrub is in place.- We've found that a square hole is better than a round one as the new roots, once they reach the edges tend to grow in a circle round the circumference of the hole whereas when they reach the corners of a square hole, they find it easier to grow through.- Before planting soak container-grown shrubs thoroughly and allow to drain.- Remove the plant from its pot and tease out a few of the roots.- Add Mycorrhizal fungi to the roots when planting to help plants establish quicker.- Place your shrub in the hole at the same level at the pot.- Refill the hole with the earth removed (backfilling).- Firm in the soil with your heel, avoiding the root ball and water well.- Mulch around the base of the plant with a collar, compost, gravel, bark etc.Aftercare advice for Asimina triloba:- The paw paw tree likes to be kept in continuously moist soil.- Keep plants well-watered while they establish.- Hardy to -10°C, protect from cold winds as it is these that tend to cause the most damage to young plants.Pruning Advice for Pawpaw:- Pawpaws require no special pruning; only occasional maintenance is needed to remove any growth that has been damaged over winter.Planting Time:February - NovemberFlowering Time:May - JuneFruiting Time:SeptemberAbout You GardenEstablished for over 50 years, our award winning trusted plant supplier are based in South Lincolnshire.
