Pachira Aquatica is a striking but undemanding houseplant with gorgeous twining stems and luxurious, palmate leaves. Also known as the Money Tree, Guiana Chestnut or the Saba Nut it is an exotic-looking specimen that will be the talking point of your home. A native of South and Central America that thrives near wetlands and swamps, hence its name 'Aquatica'. It loves soil that is moist at all times so it's virtually indestructible and also thrives in indirect light, so growing it indoors is a piece of cake. Preferring a warm, light position, a little shade is also well tolerated by this sturdy houseplant. Just position it in the brightest area of your home and leave it to do its thing. Supplied as a potted plant in a 12cm nursery pot. Please note that the decorative pot is not included.Care GuidePachira aquatica needs to be watered - allow it to dry out a little between waterings then give it a generous dousing until the water begins to drain from the pot. It will love a little water-soluble feed from spring through to early summer. A high humidity is also appreciated, so spray the plant regularly, especially if kept in a centrally-heated house. During the winter, place Pachira in a cooler room, and carry out any routine pruning needed: snip back stems just in front of a leaf or node to remove length. Cut no more than 1/3 of a stem and snip it at a 45-degree angle to promote new growth. Trim back the top stems to prevent your tree from growing too tall - keeping it pruned low to the twisted trunk will help control its size. Snip off any new stems that form at the base of the twisted trunk. Snip off close to the trunk, but not flush. This product is offered for sale for home delivery exclusively via our website only. The Chinese Money Plant, also known as the Missionary Plant, is a great houseplant for shelves and window ledges. It has rounded, glossy leaves, that surround a central, upright stem, with a neat and compact habit.
The Chinese Money plant (or Pilea Peperomioides) has been a popular plant ever since it was originally brought over from the southwestern Yunnan province of China. Their bright green pancake-shaped leaves provide a burst of colour against white walls or paler backgrounds. Light and Water Light-wise, the best situation for a Chinese money plant is bright light, with no direct sunlight. Direct sun scorches leaves, and light shade may encourage larger leaves. They’re said to be hardy down to freezing, and a period of cool temperatures may make them more likely to produce their tiny white flowers on pink stems. The Chinese money plant prefers a well-draining potting soil, and a pot with drainage holes is necessary. The soil needs to mostly dry out between waterings, with more watering required in warmer, sunnier weather. If the leaves start to look slightly droopy, that’s a sign that the plant needs water. To keep your Chinese money plant nicely shaped, rotate it at least once a week to prevent it from getting lopsided. The large leaves tend to accumulate dust, so these plants benefit from regular showers, or at least wiping down of their leaves. Treat monthly with an all-purpose plant fertilizer during the spring and summer growing seasons.
Chinese Money Plants are part of the 'Pilea' family which are evergreen succulents. As such they can be slow growing but reward you with plentiful fleshy leaves and easy to care for indoors. This huge specimen is eye-catching with its uniquely shaped leaves, mass of colour it provides as well its many young offshoots. Presented in a beautiful ceramic pot.
