Without doubt, the toughest and hardiest of all ornamental bananas in the UK, it is grown for it's dramatic and tough leaves, and once mature, it's amazing and long lasting golden yellow flowers - hence it's name. From high up in the Chinese Mountains of Yunnan, it is naturally very tough, and exposed to temperaturees well below freezing. It forms a much thicker, tougher and sturdier trunk-stem than other bananas, which is very tough and hardy. Even if leaves are damaged by frosts, more and new leaves emerge in Spring, as well as numerous 'pups' round the side. The flower is in fact it's last hurrah, a 6 Month epic flower display, but a sign the plant will die - but fear not - you will have plenty of established pups round the side in a clump, EACH of which will grow and develop to maturity too. It is thus best regarded as a clump forming perennial. It is also much shorter and less vigorous than other huge banana plants too at around 4-5ft tall maximum, making it ideal for large pots in small gardens - grow in full sun or shade, it makes a great talking point. Note - it does not produce any edible banana fruit, not even tiny ornamental ones. Very easy to grow, and a great exotic looking patio focal point.

This really is a novelty plant and something different - so different in fact, we've not grown them fully either (yet!). We've located a small specialist grower in Holland who is developing ways to grow Avocados in Northern Europe and these fine trees are a great starting point. Avocados thrive in warm, humid conditions, so will need winter protection in the UK - they can grow outside on patios fine though between late May and September. They will grow quite quickly at 50cm a year and these are already pruned back, so this season will produce side branches. It makes an attractive indoor plant anyway, forming a woody trunk with pleasant glossy leaves. They usually take 5-7 years to produce fruit on a mature tree, and have fruited in UK before - indoors and out. These Avocados are so new though, you will have great fun trying growing them regardless of whether they fruit, safe in the knowledge that virtually no-one else has ever grown one! Sinocalycanthus 'Venus', also known as the Carolina Allspice, is a bushy shrub that will become the focus of your garden with its large showy flowers and subtle-coloured autumn display. One of the more exclusive shrubs that you can acquire for your garden, Sinocalycanthus is the end result of an intense breeding program and is rarely offered for sale in garden centres, so this is your chance to get your hands on something really rather special. The main show is from late spring into summer when 'Venus' erupts with a fabulous show of large, magnolia-like, creamy-white flowers with yellow and purple central splashes. The eyecatching blooms are beautifully scented and the first flush will last for several weeks in late spring, before blooming on and off right through until the autumn. There's then the added bonus in autumn when the large, glossy green leaves turn yellow and transform into honey-brown before falling. This stunning re-blooming Hemerocallis 'Strawberry Candy' begins flowering early in the season and produces further flushes throughout the summer. With coral pink blooms which are dabbed with strawberry red centres, each is carried above dense clumps of strap-like foliage from early summer. Like all Daylilies they are short lived, but the blooms of Hemerocallis 'Strawberry Candy' can last a full 24 hours before being replaced by new blooms the following day.
Physocarpus opulifolius ?Little Devil? is a dwarf form of Ninebark with attractive deep purple leaves which emerge bright red in spring and mature to deep burgundy by summer. Clusters of pink flowers appear in June, contrasting nicely with the dark foliage. In late summer, attractive fruits are borne, adding more interest to the already impressive display. Extremely low maintenance and ideal for beginner gardeners or those with little time to spend in the garden, taking well to containers and borders. Height and spread: 1.2m (4?).
Without doubt one of sweetest apples you'll ever taste. 'Fuji Kiku' is renowned for its flavour and almost complete lack of acidity, which only serves to enhance the sweetness more! The large, ruby red apples have thin, lighter coloured stripes and look stunning when hanging ripe on the tree. A striking and beautiful houseplant, Alocasia Amazonica is a robust evergreen perennial with dark green, narrowly arrow-shaped, wavy-edged leaves, growing up to 2 ft. long (60 cm). When grown in preferred conditions and given proper care, this hybrid Alocasia will grace your indoors with its lush growth and distinctly coloured leaves for years to come. Light and Water For the best performance and for the foliage to retain its deep green colouring, it is best to situate your Alocasia Amazonica in a location that receives bright indirect light. If you live in an area where the temperatures and light conditions are not intense can place it in a location that receives direct sunlight. If placed in a location lacking enough light the plant loses its colour, including the leaf veins and can eventually die. Even when placed in a location that receives a medium amount of light, the plant won’t be happy and won’t produce the best growth and leaf coloration as when placed in a brighter location. So, experiment on locations and keep an eye of its health and change locations where necessary. As with most tropical plants, maintain evenly moist but not soggy soil during the growing season, watering when the surface begins to dry. Reduce watering significantly in winter.
