Golden Barrel Cactus Indoor Plant Grusonii 12cm Pot
  • £9.99

Currently bang on trend with their own Instagram following, this golden barrel cactus is suitable for beginners as well as experienced indoor gardeners. Cacti have evolved for arid living so are used to very little water, hot days and chilly nights, making them perfectly adapted to modern home living! Needing very little in the way of care, cacti are the ideal houseplant for everyone. Happy in a sandy compost, with plenty of light and a little water now and again, your cactus will thrive as it is built to conserve moisture. It will tolerate being dry and will explode into growth when watered correctly (just don't overwater them). If you want to do less and get more out of your plants, then these cacti are ideal as they are slow-growing, and this specimen is the perfect living sculpture for home decoration. Ideal to get kids interested in gardening, this cactus is ready to place anywhere you want, from windowsills to desks and shelves. Supplied as a single plant, ready to go on a windowsill near you now! Please note that the decorative pot is not included. Remember that cacti are prickly beggars – always wear protective clothing when handling.Care GuideAlways use specialist cactus compost when potting. This is sandier and grittier than ordinary compost, which helps keep the plants dry. Keep plants frost-free. Although some will tolerate low temperature, in general they need to be kept above 8-10C, so they make ideal houseplants. While cacti survive on little water, they will not thrive. From April to September, water weekly, allowing the compost to soak up water and drain freely. Feed with a general-purpose feed at 1/4 strength once a fortnight. From October to March, water only when the compost has dried, and then only enough to stop plants shrivelling. Keep your plants in bright but not direct sunlight; an east or west-facing windowsill is ideal. This product is offered for sale for home delivery exclusively via our website only. Ligustrum ovalifolium Aureum - Golden Privet
  • £14.97

Privet (Ligustrum ovalifolium) or Golden Privet is robust and very popular choice for topiary and hedging, and this golden form 'Aureum' is a colourful variation of the more usual green plants. Easy and reliable, privet is fairly quick growing and soon forms a decent hedge and will grow virtually anywhere from sun to shade. The glossy leaves are edged in golden-yellow and stay on the plants all year, except during periods of extreme heat or cold - so Aureum is a semi evergreen in nature although soon bounces back to lush growth in the spring, coming back bigger and bushier. When plants are allowed to grow untrimmed, they produce pretty creamy clusters of fragrant flowers in summer as an added bonus, which are attractive to butterflies and birds and these are followed by glossy black berries. The densely packed, small leaves mean that it is easily trimmed into shape so ideal for different shapes and sizes of hedge - trim it a couple of times during the summer to encourage the formation of a dense, formal garden hedge. The slim branches also mean that you can run over it with a pair of shears or light cutting equipment to get it into shape. Plus, if you leave your hedge and it gets out of hand, you can give it a good chop back and it quickly recovers. Privet will grow well virtually anywhere (although dislikes sitting in wet soil) and is suitable for coastal situations (although it may defoliate a bit in winter). Plants are resistant to pollution and so a really great choice for town gardens where other plants may not thrive so well. Supplied as 3 x established plants in 9cm pots, ready to plant out. For hedges plant 40cm (16') apart
