Very reliable performer. Early to bloom and the large double flowers appear freely providing a tall mixture of brightly coloured heads in oranges and yellows. It is an ideal space filler adding great height and colour in the border, and dramatic when mass planted into a large container, especially when companion planted with bright blue flowers. 'Crackerjack' looks spectacular when block planted into a border about 30cm (1ft) apart. Try the flowers in a salad, they taste of citrus! An early flowering marigold with outstanding garden performance, producing masses of extra-large anemone-type flowers. Flowering from early summer to first frosts, plants are vigourous and bushy and offer tremendous value for money.
Good cooks prefer shallots to onions as they know that the taste is far superior and lifts any full flavoured savoury dish that otherwise would include onions. They're delicious peeled and pickled too and the perfect accompaniment to good cheese. Shallots are easy to grow in most garden soils and just need a sunny spot - plant a single bulb and it grows and divides through spring and summer giving as many as 6 or 8 new bulbs to harvest at the end of summer. The green foliage is also tasty used in summer salads but use sparingly to make sure of the best bulb harvest! Dry and keep indoors, using when needed, shallots keep really well and often last through to spring. Any you have left can be planted back so keeping your own stock over the years. Golden Gourmet is a favourite garden variety giving a heavy crop of round brown skinned shallots with a great taste and which are very good keepers.
Years of breeding have created this unique raspberry. Bred to be compact and ideal for growing in patio pots and requiring no support, it produces scrumptious medium-sized golden yellow fruits from mid-July and through the summer. Although 'Summer Lovers Patio Gold' is classed as an autumn-fruiting raspberry, once established it will start to bear fruit in the summer from the middle of July - 3 weeks earlier than most raspberries. This is a primocane variety, meaning it will bear fruit on new wood, therefore you'll get fruit in the very first year instead of having to wait a year as you would with traditional raspberries. Easy to maintain, it requires just a little prune to simply remove old canes once they are older than 18 months and that's it. Easy to grow and look after, this raspberry can be grown and picked without problem in small spaces, in the garden, on a balcony or terrace, as they reach less than a metre. Supplied as an established plant in a 9cm pot, reaching H80cm x W50cm.
