One of the traditional English dessert pears, Williams (or Williams Bon Chretien, after the nurseryman who first propagated it) is a pear tree with a pedigree dating back to the late 18th century. Also known as the Bartlett Pear, Williams is a good early-season pear variety, producing a regular crop of large, yellow, aromatic fruits with an excellent sweet and juicy flavour. Williams pears have a typical and recognisable 'pear flavour', and this British bred pear is perfect for poaching and preserving, as well as eating fresh from the tree from mid to late September.
