One of the easiest vegetables to grow at home, offering high yields and superb taste. Plus they can be used in crop rotation. Simply let the roots rot down after the plants have finished cropping and they will release nitrogen back into the soil, which can then be used by the crops that follow. Peas Ambassador is a semi-leafless variety producing high yields of plump juicy peas. Offering a good resistance to mildew, this variety is one of the most popular varieties available.
For those looking for a Peat-Free potting compost, our Multipurpose is carefully blended from a mix of composted coir (cocofibre), fine bark chippings for aeration, and a sterilised mixed organic green waste. This is then topped up with a 5:6:10 NPK fertiliser, plus 2.9% Magnesium, which gives all plants a good start in life. The Peat-Free Compost is fine enough for seedling and cutting use, yet coarse enough for general purpose potting on into tubs, baskets or pots. You may find this compost needs slightly less water than peat-based composts, otherwise treat them exactly the same. Please note as this is a heavy item delivered by courier, there will be an additional postage charge added to your basket.

Commonly known as the “Prickly Pear” cactus, this a decorative variety of Opuntia which produces the edi-ble oval-shaped yellow-red fruit. Opuntia family of cacti are known for their unusual shapes and this one is no exception. With large thorny pads and oval bulbus fruits, this is one of the more alien-looking plants in our collection. Light and Water The plant likes a sunny position and can be placed outdoors in the summer to receive more heat. However hardy this plant is, it is not suitable for UK climates. In winter, the plant likes it dry and cool, so you should bring this plant indoors during winter, or keep it indoors all year round near a sunny windowsill. It prefers di-rect sunlight to indirect light. Prickly pears are extremely drought tolerant. During the growing season don’t water newly propagated pads for the first month. After that, water every two to four weeks for the first year — twice a month in summer and once a month other times of the year/ Prickly pears prefer alkaline to neutral soil if you need to repot them. More importantly, the soil needs to drain well, as residual moisture or puddling can cause the plant to rot.
