In your collection - Magnolia Stellata Breathe in deeply. The large white flowers that burst out of the silky, silvery buds that cover the bare branches of the aptly named Star Magnolia during March and April are deliciously fragrant. Slow-growing and compact (3m (10ft) in height and 4m (12ft) across) this plant will thrive in most soils. - Magnolia x Soulangeana One of the most popular magnolias you can grow thanks to a succession of huge, tulip-shaped pinky white flowers that smother the branches of this shrub in mid to late spring. They are shown off to great perfection on the spreading bush as they appear before its dark green leaves. Eventually reaching 6m (20ft) by 6m (20ft) wide, it can be pruned to keep within an allotted area. It prefers acidic soil or pots filled with ericaceous compost. - Magnolia Betty A perfect specimen for a small garden, this medium-sized magnolia boasts narrow, goblet shaped flowers that appear from near purple buds with a creamy white centre in April. Measuring almost 15cm (6in) across, each deep pink bloom packs a heady scent. It does best in slightly acidic soil or can be planted in containers of ericaceous compost. This upright shrub will grow to 4m (12ft) high by 3m (10ft) across.Top Tips- Your Magnolias require little pruning other than to maintain their shape and remove damaged or crossing stems. Do this as soon as possible after flowering to keep the flower buds for the following year.- When planting, choose your site carefully as magnolias dislike being moved.- Magnolia plants establish quicker when their roots are shaded so apply a mulch of rotted bark chips, manure or garden compost after planting, taking care not to mound it around the stem of the plant.Care Guide- Plant magnolias in a sunny or semi shaded position with protection from cold winds and spring frosts.- Magnolias prefer a rich, moist, well drained, acid to neutral soil so incorporate plenty of well-rotted manure or garden compost to improve the soil prior to planting.- To plant, water your potted plant well.- Dig a hole a little deeper and 3 x wider than the nursery pot.- Add a soil conditioner such as well-rotted manure to the earth removed from the hole if necessary.- Remove the plant from its pot and tease out a few of the roots.- Place your plant in the hole at the same level at the pot.- Refill the hole with the earth removed (backfilling).- Firm in the soil with your heel, avoiding the root ball.- Water well and mulch around the base of the plant with a collar, compost, gravel, bark etc.Planting Time:All yearFlowering Time:April - MayAbout You GardenEstablished for over 50 years, our award winning trusted plant supplier are based in South Lincolnshire. All heights listed are approximate and fully established plant heights may vary. The amount of foliage, buds or bloom on the plant will depend on what part of the season the product is purchased. Please see description below for full product details.Blessed with strongly scented flowers from late spring into early summer, French lilacs are desirable deciduous shrubs that really make their presence felt. Appearing in great profusion at the end of branches clothed with heart shaped green leaves, the tiny, packed clusters of purple buds open to reveal a mass of brightly coloured tubular flowers that smell great and act as a magnet to wildlife. A real sun lover, lilacs can be grown in just about any soil or can be raised in large containers. For a sensational floral display, year after year, deadhead when two new shoots appear beneath faded blooms and remove any wayward branches to keep a compact shape. Supplied as 3 established plants in 9cm pots, 1 each of 3 colours pink, white and lavender-blue.Top Tips- Plant them where you can smell the gorgeous flowers!Care Guide- Grow lilac plants in fertile, well drained soil in full sun.- Feed and water regularly throughout the growing season while young plants become established.- Lilac can be pruned in winter or spring by removing any damaged, diseased or misplaced stems before lightly shaping to retain the standard form and height. In mid-summer, faded flowers can be removed from the plants.- After pruning, apply a mulch of well-rotted manure or compost to the base of the lilac. To Plant:- Shrub roots generally tend to spread out rather than down, so dig a planting hole 3 x wider than the roots of the shrub you're planting, and mix some well rotted compost or manure with the soil from the hole and use this to re-fill one the shrub is in place.- We've found that a square hole is better than a round one as the new roots, once they reach the edges tend to grow in a circle round the circumference of the hole whereas when they reach the corners of a square hole, they find it easier to grow through.- Before planting soak container-grown shrubs thoroughly and allow to drain.- Remove the plant from its pot and tease out a few of the roots.- Add Mycorrhizal fungi to the roots when planting to help plants establish quicker.- Place your shrub in the hole at the same level at the pot.- Refill the hole with the earth removed (backfilling).- Firm in the soil with your heel, avoiding the root ball and water well.- Mulch around the base of the plant with a collar, compost, gravel, bark etc.Planting Time:All yearFlowering Time:May - JuneAbout You GardenEstablished for over 50 years, our award winning trusted plant supplier are based in South Lincolnshire. Dragon Tree Dracaena Marginata 2 Stem Indoor Plant 30/15cm Tall in 17cm Pot
  • £16.99

Looking very much like a palm tree in miniature, Dracaena Marginata (also known as the Madagascar dragon tree) is an evergreen shrub with a crown of long, sword-shaped, dark green leaves, finely edged with reddish-brown. A superb, low-maintenance houseplant with few problems. Holder of the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit, so you can be sure that it is a tried and tested winner, Dracaena is an easy-to-grow indoor plant which thrives with little care. A super choice for those of us new to growing houseplants! Dragon trees need a bright position like a light windowsill out of direct sunlight, and away from artificial heat sources such as radiators. They are slow growing, taking around 10 years to get to 5ft in height, so won't overtake your home. As well as being super-easy to grow, Dracaena is well known for helping keep the air in your home clean as it filters out pollutants keeping it fresh and clean. According to NASA this plant can remove formaldehyde, xylene, and toluene which are found in furniture, fireplace smoke, and common household products. Supplied as a double-stem plant (30/15cm) in a 17cm pot. Please note that the decorative pot is not included.Care GuideFeed the plant with a liquid houseplant fertilizer every two weeks in spring and summer. Repot every two years into a pot one size larger until plants reach the desired height. After that, repot every three years into the same pot to refresh the soil. Control your plant's height by cutting off the top when needed. The stem will look a bit bare for a while, but within a few weeks, new shoots will appear and the leaves will regrow. This product is offered for sale for home delivery exclusively via our website only. Thuja Golden Smaragd Hedging Set 9cm Pots x10
  • £59.99

Golden Smaragd is a wonderful variety of Thuja, an evergreen conifer with a naturally narrow, conical habit. It is slow-growing with sprays of bright yellow-green aromatic foliage. This fabulous collection will be perfect for creating a hedge, dividing up areas of your garden, lining pathways and borders or screening off areas for privacy. Thuja is incredibly easy to grow and requires very little maintenance. It doesn't need regular trimming to keep it tidy, making it the ideal choice for hedging. It's amazingly hardy and can survive temperatures down to -45C, but should be protected from cold winter winds when young. Golden Smaragd is a handsome and colourful decorative tree, ideal as a specimen and perfect for bringing year-round height and structure to your beds and borders. A versatile tree for any part of the garden and well suited to container growing. Thuja thrive in well-drained soil, whether acid, alkaline or neutral. Supplied as a collection of 10 established plants in 9cm pots ready for planting out. Growing up to 5m (16ft 6in) tall and 1.7m (5ft 6in) wide after 20 years.Planting advice for your Thuja: Water your potted plant well. Dig a hole a little deeper and 3 times wider than the nursery pot. Add a soil conditioner such as well-rotted manure to the earth removed from the hole if necessary. Remove the plant from its pot and tease out a few of the roots. Sprinkle on some root grow to help establish a sound root system. Place your plant in the hole at the same level as the pot. Refill the hole with the earth removed (backfilling). Firm in the soil with your heel, avoiding the root ball. Water well and mulch around the base of the plant with a collar, compost, gravel, bark etc. Newly planted conifers need regular watering to prevent browning - once established they are drought proof. Remove weeds as soon as they appear and mulch well to reduce water loss.Pruning advice for your Thuja: No pruning is required although you can clip to retain its height from spring to late summer; just avoid cutting into old wood. If your plant gets too tall for where you have planted it, clip the top to keep it at the required height.About You GardenEstablished for over 50 years, our award winning trusted plant supplier are based in South Lincolnshire.
