Campsis Trumpet Vine Collection
  • £39.98

Now if you want to set your garden alight in summer, our sensational bright citrus-coloured Trumpet Vines are perfect - they look totally tropical, but are actually very hardy, tough and easy too, but flower their socks off in summer well into autumn with bright, vivid displays. This 'Trumpet Vine'series is the result of new breeding, which is much more compact at 2m maximum, and hardier and more floriferous - perfect for British summer gardens. They are called vines, but they do not climb, rather leaning against things! This makes them great for growing against sunny walls, trellises, sheds etc where they can easily be fixed or tied in - as they flower best when exposed to sun for most of the day. They will grow in most soils, apart from very wet, and require little care apart from tying the branches in once a year. In Summer, they erupt into the magnificent displays you see here - plastered in bold, bright trumpet shaped flowers that bees just adore. Widely grown in the continent, you may have seen their bold, usually red displays before, but this new breeding is tougher, hardier, more floriferous, and with stronger, new colours too. You will get 1 established plant each of: 'Orange Trumpet' - mandarin orange. 'Yellow Trumpet' - golden yellow. 'Red Trumpet' - fiery scarlet red Why not plant all 3 along a fence, wall, or shed for a spectacular display or share them with friends if you haven't got space for all 3. But do make sure you give them a go. Supplied as 3 x established plants in 2L pots, ready to plant out.

Ligustrum Bonsai S
  • £24.99

It's fascinating that a plant found everywhere in the UK, usually as a formal hedge, actually makes a fantastic bonsai, and that's exactly what Ligustrum, or Privet is! Grown in a shallow plastic pot, this bonsai has been lovingly grown into an 'S' shape to show off its trunk and branches. Covered in glossy oval leaves, summer will see it produce tiny white scented flowers which are followed by small black fruits (which shouldn't be eaten). A great choice for beginners wanting to learn about the enchanting art of bonsai, or for those who want to add to their collection, Privet is a strong plant that takes well to bonsai styling techniques and produces a good thick trunk. Very fast growing, low maintenance, easy to prune and not too fussy about where it should be positioned, it's no surprise that this is an all-time favourite! As it's so vigorous, this is a hungry tree needing plenty of food and water. It's important not to let the shoots grown too long, as the tree will lose its 'miniature' appearance, so when shoots are 4cm long trim them back to the first pair of new leaves. Ligustrum, like all bonsai, has a symbolic meaning, and in this case it is peace and friendship, making it a beautifully thoughtful gift to somebody special. Quite a hardy bonsai, it can be kept outdoors for much of the year if you wish, and especially summer.

Ipheion uniflorum (spring starflower)
  • £3.99

Otherwise known as the spring starflower, Ipheion uniflorum produces exquisite star-shaped blooms in early spring. Each stem bears a single, sweet-scented flower (reflecting the Latin uniflorum - single flower), with six pointed petals and colours varying through shades of pale silvery-blue to lilac. The narrow leaves appear before the flowers and, being a close relation to alliums, give off an onion-like aroma when crushed. This small, herbaceous perennial is perfect for mixing with other low-level, spring-flowering bulbs in rock and alpine gardens, borders, beds and containers, and is also good for underplanting shrubs and roses. It naturalises easily, rewarding you with more profuse displays year after year. Easy to grow, the bulbs will thrive in full sun or partial shade, preferring a sheltered position with moderately fertile, well-drained soil. Supplied as a pack of 50 bulbs, size 4/5 ready for planting in the autumn.

Allium nigrum
  • £3.99

With its semi-globe shaped flowerheads packed full of dozends of tiny cream flowers, each with a green centre, allium nigrum is a gorgeous variety, and a refreshing change to the more common purple alliums. This is a compact allium, only reaching 40 cm (16 in) tall, making it ideal for growing in pots or towards the front of borders. Its strappy leaves for in clump just above ground level, leaving the flower stems to stand alone, enhancing the beauty of the flowers. Recommended by the RHS as a 'Plant for Pollinators' the flowers are produced throughout May and June and are a favourite with butterflies and bees. The flowerheads gradually turn to seed, but maintain their shape, looking amazing if left on the plant over the winter, and Alliums look great as cut flowers, whether still in bloom or as dried seed heads - you can even spray them white or purple to bring back the flower colour. Preferring a sunny location, alliums are not too fussy about soil type and will grow well, naturalising and multiplying over the years. Clumps can be dug up and split every few years to stop them becoming congested. Supplied as 10 bulbs, size 10/12, ready to plant in autumn, growing to a height of 40 cm (16 in) and width of 10 cm (4 in).
