Cambridge Favourite' is one of the most popular varieties available. Bumper crops of juicy orange-red fruits with excellent texture and flavour and texture are produced from June to July. Growing well in conditions that other plants would struggle in, Sea Buckthorn is a perfect hedging plant for coastal areas as it prefers dry, sandy soils. Its small, silvery leaves cover prickly/thorny stems making it great for security hedging and the yellow flowers which appear in late spring turn into bright orange berries that are packed with vitamin C!
A favourite in the cottage garden, this tall and slender plant is a magnificent sight in late summer when each stem is clothed in ruffled bright pink pompom blooms. Providing late season colour, Hibiscus syriacus 'Oiseau Bleu' has large lavender-blue flowers, with maroon and cream centres, from August until October. It is a nice addition to wide garden borders in sunny locations, especially in gardens where most of the shrubs flower earlier in the year, such as Rhododendrons. Soft pink blooms erupt from furry buds that adorn the bare branches. As the flowers age they fade to white with a delicate pink blush. This charming deciduous shrub becomes cloaked in handsome green foliage as the flowers fade and colourful cone-like fruit take their place. A particularly elegant choice for sheltered borders, patio containers and woodland gardens.
