Early sowings require protection with cloches and when harvesting, select alternate young carrots from the row, allowing the remainder to devop fully. Keep well watered to prevent the roots splitting. Seedlings appear within 7-21 days of planting and if continuous crops are desirable sow every 2-3 weeks. Remove soil from roots and store in dry sand. Root vegetables boast a host of colours and flavours and include carrots, radish, horseradish, sweet potato, turnip and beetroot.
