A fantastic foliage plant, that is particulary well suited to gardens of a contemporary or oriental style. Sorbaria sorbifolia 'Sem' can be planted in borders or in large planters on roof top gardens, courtyards, decking etc. Spiraea sorbifolia has fern like yellow-green foliage and clusters of feathery white flowers in summer, and in autumn the leaves turn burgundy red. This plant is very cold tolerant, but thrives in a full sun position. Height and spread: 150cm (59).
Something a little different for the herb garden, Rosemary ?Pink Flowered? is an upright, evergreen shrub but instead of the blue flowers typical of rosemary this variety bears delightful pale pink blooms.
This colourful House Leek produces blood red rosettes of fleshy foliage that form radiating clumps over time. Sempervivum arachnoideum 'Coral Red' is a strong growing variety with a vigorous root system that allows it to spread as colourful ground cover.
Narcissus 'Rosemoor Gold' is a sunny Jonquilla type with 2-3 wide open, golden blooms per stem. The cups are gently crimped, releasing an uplifting perfume that fills the spring air.
One of the most popular garden herbs, Rosemary remains a versatile plant both decoratively and functionally with a plethora of uses around the garden. 'Miss Jessopp's Upright' is a compact evergreen with an upright growth habit which makes it perfect for adding colour and vertical interest to your garden. The pointed leaves of Rosemary are superbly aromatic which makes it ideal for lining paths and borders when you can brush against its foliage to release the instantly recognisable smell. Recommended by the RHS as a 'Plant for Pollinators' the dainty light blue flowers are produced through the spring and summer and are a favourite with butterflies and bees. Fully deserving its coveted RHS Award of Garden Merit, you can be sure that this is a proven garden performer, guaranteed to be suitable for UK gardeners at every level of experience. Fully hardy and easy to care for, Rosemary deserves a prominent place in any garden, where it will bring a colourful and fragrant display. Compact enough to grow in a pot if space is limited, you can restrict the size of 'Miss Jessopp's Upright' with a bit of judicial pruning, so anyone can have a go at growing this fragrant herb. It's hard to beat the sleek and simple lines of well-trimmed quality Buxus, adding a modern yet classic look to any garden. Used for centuries as a classic garden hedge or to form borders around other planting such as roses, Buxus sempervirens is a well-loved and instantly recognised feature of both formal and contemporary gardens. Equally at home in small or large gardens, box hedging is perfect for edges, borders and small boundaries, and makes neat hedges 1m tall over 10 years if required, although can be kept much smaller if needed. Whether dressing either side of a classic porch, or as a feature in minimalist decking gardens, it's hard to think of another easy to grow, yet versatile plant as good as Box. Supplied as an established plant in a 9cm pot, these 15-20cm plants are 3 years old and trimmed several times to give really bushy plants that make growing a box hedge easy. Plant one plant per 25cm (10in) for best results. Totally hardy too, leave them out all year - they look great covered in snow too! The key with Box is not to let them dry out - especially when in full sun for much of the day. Keep the roots cool and well-watered and they will grow 10-15cm per year. Do not trim for 2-3 years after planting, then lightly tip in summer as needed.
