Pawpaw Fruit Tree Asimina Triloba - Single Established Plant
  • £19.99

This product is offered for sale for home delivery exclusively via our website only. The images represent established plants, the supplied product may be younger. All heights listed are approximate and fully established plant heights may vary. The amount of foliage, buds or bloom on the plant will depend on what part of the season the product is purchased. Please see description below for full product details.A decorative shrub that can be grown outside, the pawpaw is a garden-worthy plant that will give a long season of interest. The show begins in spring, when the deep burgundy-purple, cup-shaped flowers burst from their buds in May. With an unusual form, they consist of 6 petals - 3 outer and 3 inner - giving a delightful show that always gets attention. These are followed in hot summers by oval, edible fruits that colour up from yellow to a rich ochre - think of the colour of a ripe banana. The long lime-green leaves then dominate the show, gradually turning golden-yellow before falling in the autumn. Tasting like a cross between a banana and a mango, pawpaw is said to have a sweet custard-like flavour which makes them a great delicacy - however, you're unlikely to see them commercially grown as plants can be male, female or hermaphroditic. Although they have both male and female reproduction parts, they are not self-pollinating and need pollination from another unrelated pawpaw tree. Hardy to -10C, the Pawpaw benefits from a warm position in the garden such as a sheltered, south-facing wall where it is best grown as an ornamental multi-stemmed shrub. While plants can reach up to 8m in their native US, they're more likely to attain a modest 4m here in the UK.Supplied as an established plant in a 3L pot ready for immediate planting.Top Tips- Pot-grown shrubs can be planted at any time of the year as long as the soil is not waterlogged or frozen. If in doubt, err towards spring but remember to keep pots well-watered so that the soil does not dry out.Care GuidePlanting Advice for your Asimina triloba Pawpaw tree:- Grow Paw Paw in a sunny, sheltered site in well-drained, preferable acid soil. Protect from frost and winds.- Paw paw trees need well-draining soil that is high in organic matter so if your soil is heavy, then you can improve drainage by adding sand or grit.- Dig a planting hole 3 x wider than the roots of the shrub you're planting and mix some well-rotted compost or manure with the soil from the hole and use this to re-fill once the shrub is in place.- We've found that a square hole is better than a round one as the new roots, once they reach the edges tend to grow in a circle round the circumference of the hole whereas when they reach the corners of a square hole, they find it easier to grow through.- Before planting soak container-grown shrubs thoroughly and allow to drain.- Remove the plant from its pot and tease out a few of the roots.- Add Mycorrhizal fungi to the roots when planting to help plants establish quicker.- Place your shrub in the hole at the same level at the pot.- Refill the hole with the earth removed (backfilling).- Firm in the soil with your heel, avoiding the root ball and water well.- Mulch around the base of the plant with a collar, compost, gravel, bark etc.Aftercare advice for Asimina triloba:- The paw paw tree likes to be kept in continuously moist soil.- Keep plants well-watered while they establish.- Hardy to -10°C, protect from cold winds as it is these that tend to cause the most damage to young plants.Pruning Advice for Pawpaw:- Pawpaws require no special pruning; only occasional maintenance is needed to remove any growth that has been damaged over winter.Planting Time:February - NovemberFlowering Time:May - JuneFruiting Time:SeptemberAbout You GardenEstablished for over 50 years, our award winning trusted plant supplier are based in South Lincolnshire. Daphne 'Eternal Fragrance' - Single Established Plant

This product is offered for sale for home delivery exclusively via our website only. The images represent established plants, the supplied product may be younger. All heights listed are approximate and fully established plant heights may vary. The amount of foliage, buds or bloom on the plant will depend on what part of the season the product is purchased. Please see description below for full product details. What could be better than the sweet heady fragrance of Daphne in the garden! Eternal Fragrance's perfumed blooms are produced in abundance from April until October every year. It's a compact and slow growing variety so it is perfect for smaller gardens and this semi-evergreen Daphne produces flowers on new growth, meaning the creamy white blooms just keep on coming right through the summer! We've grown this superb plant on a little longer than those normally available from other online garden stores, to give you much better plant for your money. Grow it in a pot and place on the patio or near a garden path so you enjoy the delightful scent! Height and spread 90 cm (3ft). Supplied as an established plant in a 2Lpot ready for planting into your favourite container!Top Tips- Grown for their beautiful and intensely fragrant blooms, Daphnes are best planted near paths and doorways or at the front of borders where it is easy to enjoy their delicious fragrance when in flower.Care Guide- Plants will thrive in a sunny or part-shaded location with well drained soil. They don't like dry roots, so water regularly and deeply. Daphne will establish best if planted in the spring when the soil is warm - from March to October. Dig a hole twice the width of the rootball. Sprinkle in a handful of blood, fish and bone and work into the ground. If your soil is heavy add plenty of well rotted compost to the area and dig it in well. Horticultural sand/grit added to the mix is also beneficial. Place the plant into the hole, back-filling so that it is at the same depth as was in the pot. Fill around the root ball and firm the soil down gently but firmly. - Water well. - Grated plants should be planted with the join a couple of centimetres below the soil level. Where necessary after flowering, lightly trim to remove misplaced branches and maintain a compact habit, otherwise a quick clear-up of fallen leaves will suffice.Planting Time:March - OctoberFlowering Time:April - OctoberAbout You GardenEstablished for over 50 years, our award winning trusted plant supplier are based in South Lincolnshire. Castor Oil Plant Fatsia Japonica - Single Established Plant

All heights listed are approximate and fully established plant heights may vary. The amount of foliage, buds or bloom on the plant will depend on what part of the season the product is purchased. Please see description below for full product details. For a medium-sized shrub that will bring architectural interest to your garden all year long, Fatsia japonica is just the ticket! A spectacular evergreen shrub, it produces impressively large, serrated, glossy green leaves, which remain throughout the year, giving interest in all seasons. Also known as the Japanese aralia or castor oil plant, mature Fatsia plants produce exotic spikes of creamy white flowers, followed by attractive deep purple, almost black berries. Definitely a plant for novice gardeners and seasoned pros alike, Fatsia japonica will grow well in any garden and is a great plant for difficult shady areas where other plants struggle – in fact they perform best in light or dappled shade, making a glossy backdrop to other plants with their amazing palm-like leaves. Holder of a much deserved RHS Award of Garden Merit, plants really need very little attention to give you amazing results whether you are strapped for time or a complete gardening novice, and you can be sure that this is a plant that has been rigorously trialled and proven to excel in UK gardens. Supplied as an established plant approx. 60cm tall (inc 2L pot) ready for planting straight out into the garden. Fatsia is also a great plant to complement a large decorative pot on the patio, where its architectural shape can make dramatic, tropical feature. Top Tips- Older plants will easily tolerate rough treatment and the odd hack back is soon forgotten with a burst of new growth.Care GuidePlanting Advice for Fatsia japonica:- Shrub roots generally tend to spread out rather than down, so dig a planting hole 3 x wider than the roots of the shrub you're planting and mix some well-rotted compost or manure with the soil from the hole and use this to re-fill one the shrub is in place.- We've found that a square hole is better than a round one as the new roots, once they reach the edges tend to grow in a circle round the circumference of the hole whereas when they reach the corners of a square hole, they find it easier to grow through.- Before planting soak container-grown shrubs thoroughly and allow to drain.- Remove the plant from its pot and tease out a few of the roots.- Add Mycorrhizal fungi to the roots when planting to help plants establish quicker.- Place your shrub in the hole at the same level at the pot.- Refill the hole with the earth removed (backfilling).- Firm in the soil with your heel, avoiding the root ball.- Water well.- Mulch around the base of the plant with a collar, compost, gravel, bark etc.Aftercare advice for your Fatsia plant:- Best in shade where it will bring an almost tropical look to beds and borders.- Not fussy with soil type and in fact is happiest in heavy clay.- Protect plants from cold, drying winds.- Older leaves may turn yellow and then brown - just trim them off leaving a 1' stub which quickly falls off.- Leaves will blacken in extreme cold (-4°C or below) but miraculously the plant will quickly recover as the temperature rises - any damaged foliage can then be cut back.Pruning Advice for your Castor oil plant:- Prune lightly in mid to late spring, trimming back any shoots that spoil its shape.Planting Time:All yearFlowering Time:September - NovemberFruiting Time:October - NovemberAbout You GardenEstablished for over 50 years, our award winning trusted plant supplier are based in South Lincolnshire. All heights listed are approximate and fully established plant heights may vary. The amount of foliage, buds or bloom on the plant will depend on what part of the season the product is purchased. Please see description below for full product details.Magnolias are a traditional sign that spring has arrived each and every year, with their beautiful huge buds bursting into colour early in the season. Most Magnolia are pink or shades thereof, so this rare and fabulously unique hybrid 'Yellow Bird' really is unusual. Magnolia ‘Yellow Bird’ bears the most wonderful huge lemon-yellow flowers, sometimes streaked lime green, emerging just before the deep green leaves unfurl in the spring. Easy to grow, it's hardy to -15C (although best to avoid windy sites) and with just a little prune to shape will form a nice, low maintenance, medium sized specimen garden tree. A lover of sunny areas, this dainty Mahonia will also make a fine addition to a partially shaded border too where it will reach a mature height and spread of just 1m x 1m while proving invaluable, year-round interest. Supplied as an established plant in a 19cm pot, ready for immediate planting.Top Tips- Thrives in light shade - try underplating with other shade tolerant plants such as BergeniaCare GuidePlanting Advice for your Mahonia eurybracteata 'Soft Caress':- Grow Mahonia 'Soft Caress' in a sunny, sheltered site in well-drained soil. Protect from frost and winds when young- Dig a planting hole 3 x wider than the roots of the shrub you're planting and mix some well-rotted compost or manure with the soil from the hole and use this to re-fill once the shrub is in place.- We've found that a square hole is better than a round one as the new roots, once they reach the edges tend to grow in a circle round the circumference of the hole whereas when they reach the corners of a square hole, they find it easier to grow through.- Before planting soak container-grown shrubs thoroughly and allow to drain.- Remove the plant from its pot and tease out a few of the roots then add Mycorrhizal fungi to the roots when planting to help plants establish quicker.- Place your shrub in the hole at the same level at the pot and refill the hole with the earth removed (backfilling).- Firm in the soil with your heel, avoiding the root ball and water well.- Mulch around the base of the plant with a collar, compost, gravel, bark etc.- If you're planting into pots, place some old rocks, stones or gravel in the bottom of the pot for drainage and ballast. Use the best compost you can buy and some sand or grit for drainage.Aftercare advice for Mahonia 'Soft Caress':- Keep plants well-watered while they establish, especially if planted up in a pot. Pruning Advice for Mahonia:- Mahonia needs no special pruning; only occasional maintenance is needed to remove any growth that has been damaged over winter- Every second year after flowering you can prune to size as required and to encourage bushier growthPlanting Time:February - NovemberFlowering Time:August - OctoberAbout You GardenEstablished for over 50 years, our award winning trusted plant supplier are based in South Lincolnshire. Leaf scorch can be caused by lack of soil moisture or excessive exposure.Care GuidePlanting Advice for Japanese Maple Acer palmatum 'Orange Dream':- Winter hardy and low maintenance 'Orange Dream' prefers a spot in semi-shade (will tolerate full sun, but avoid bright, direct exposure).- If your soil is slightly acidic, then you have the perfect conditions to grow Japanese maples - however do not worry if you have not as most can be grown in other soils as long as they are not wet, dry or very alkaline.- If growing in a pot, use a 50/50 mix of ericaceous and multipurpose compost if you can - although again don't worry overly about this.- Leaf colour is best in partial shade, although full sun can be tolerated as long as the plant is well watered.- Avoid exposed places as leaves can suffer with windburn (scorch), especially if the plant is dry.- Allow your Japanese Maple to get used to a whole day in the sun by starting it off in the shade, then standing it in its final sunny spot (in pot or in the garden soil) for one hour longer every day for a week.- If planting in the garden, prepare a wide hole and loosen the soil with a fork, incorporating organic matter as needed to improve moisture retention and condition. Plant your Acer palmatum so that the top of the root ball is just slightly below ground level.- Fill the planting hole with soil and heel well in. Water well.- If growing in containers, use a soil-based compost such as John Innes No 2 or a good quality ericaceous compost.- Keep the compost evenly moist, (but not soaking) and feed in spring and early summer with a slow-release fertiliser or liquid feed such as our specialist acer feed.- Your Acer will need repotting into a slightly bigger container every couple of years in April or September.- Wrap containers with bubble wrap in winter to protect the roots.Aftercare Advice for your Orange Dream Acer:- Keep plants well-watered, especially if grown in a pot, and feed with our specialist acer feedPruning Advice for your Japanese Maple:- Pruning is not necessary but can be done in late summer or early autumn if needed to remove dead or damaged branches.Planting Time:February - NovemberAbout You GardenEstablished for over 50 years, our award winning trusted plant supplier are based in South Lincolnshire. Tree Hydrangea 'Incrediball' - Single Established Plant
  • £24.99

This product is offered for sale for home delivery exclusively via our website only. The images represent established plants, the supplied product may be younger. All heights listed are approximate and fully established plant heights may vary. The amount of foliage, buds or bloom on the plant will depend on what part of the season the product is purchased. Please see description below for full product details.Hydrangea 'Incrediball’, the Tree Hydrangea (also known as Strong Annabelle), produces amazing and enormous colour-changing blooms that change from Lime Green to Pure White then fade to Green again, to make the most amazing displays in your garden and your home. It is unbelievable, but true! This is an entirely different species and variety than the traditional pink and blue plants you are probably more familiar with. The stems are incredibly strong to enable the support for this amazing flower, and they are tolerant of rain and wind hence the name, 'Incrediball'!! Also known as 'Strong Annabelle', this has been bred to supersede Hydrangea 'Annabelle', which suffered from weaker stems in wind and rain. Displays will be all summer long whatever the weather and will produce flowers to up to 30cm or 12 inches in diameter. They can be cut and used as dried flowers too - this will preserve the natural colouration or spray them gold or silver for spectacular Christmas decorations. The Tree hydrangea is a form of Hydrangea that is quick-growing, forming an upright shrub. Unlike the bushy hydrangeas, these shrubs provide later blooms for added garden colour. Growing as a shrub with multiple stems, tree hydrangeas can be pruned to look like trees, hence their name. Supplied as an established plant in a 3L pot, for real Summer impact in your garden, the Tree Hydrangea 'Incrediball' is a winner.Top Tips- Hydrangeas do not like to dry out. In dry weather, if your plant wilts, soak the roots with a hose and the plant will usually recover, and in any case, water regularly until plants are fully established.Care GuidePlanting Advice for Hydrangea Incrediball:- Really low maintenance, Incrediball prefers compost-enriched soil that stays moist. It can be planted in sun or light shade.- Shrub roots generally tend to spread out rather than down, so dig a planting hole 3 x wider than the roots of the shrub you're planting and mix some well-rotted compost or manure with the soil from the hole and use this to re-fill one the shrub is in place.- We've found that a square hole is better than a round one as the new roots, once they reach the edges tend to grow in a circle round the circumference of the hole whereas when they reach the corners of a square hole, they find it easier to grow through.- Before planting soak container-grown shrubs thoroughly and allow to drain.- Remove the plant from its pot and tease out a few of the roots.- Add Mycorrhizal fungi to the roots when planting to help plants establish quicker.- Place your shrub in the hole at the same level at the pot.- Refill the hole with the earth removed (backfilling) and firm in the soil with your heel, avoiding the root ball, then water well.- Mulch around the base of the plant with a collar, compost, gravel, bark etc.- If you're planting into pots, place some old rocks, stones or gravel in the bottom of the pot for drainage and ballast. Use the best compost you can buy and some sand or grit for drainage.Care Advice for your tree hydrangea:- Because the flowers are white, they are unaffected by soil type.- Feed in spring to encourage flowering, our Hydrangea feed is ideal.- Keep well-watered through the year.Pruning Advice for tree Hydrangea Incrediball:- As this hydrangea flowers on new wood, you can leave the faded hydrangea flower heads in place until the new buds begin to swell in spring – this also protects the new growth from frost damage.- Just cut back the stems to a strong pair of buds. Remove any branches that are damaged or dead as well as any that are misplaced.- After pruning hydrangeas, apply a mulch of well-rotted manure or compost around the base of the plant.- Once established, you can remove up to a third of the shoots to the base of the plant to encourage new stems.Planting Time:All yearFlowering Time:July - SeptemberAbout You GardenEstablished for over 50 years, our award winning trusted plant supplier are based in South Lincolnshire.
