In your collection - Magnolia Stellata Breathe in deeply. The large white flowers that burst out of the silky, silvery buds that cover the bare branches of the aptly named Star Magnolia during March and April are deliciously fragrant. Slow-growing and compact (3m (10ft) in height and 4m (12ft) across) this plant will thrive in most soils. - Magnolia x Soulangeana One of the most popular magnolias you can grow thanks to a succession of huge, tulip-shaped pinky white flowers that smother the branches of this shrub in mid to late spring. They are shown off to great perfection on the spreading bush as they appear before its dark green leaves. Eventually reaching 6m (20ft) by 6m (20ft) wide, it can be pruned to keep within an allotted area. It prefers acidic soil or pots filled with ericaceous compost. - Magnolia Betty A perfect specimen for a small garden, this medium-sized magnolia boasts narrow, goblet shaped flowers that appear from near purple buds with a creamy white centre in April. Measuring almost 15cm (6in) across, each deep pink bloom packs a heady scent. It does best in slightly acidic soil or can be planted in containers of ericaceous compost. This upright shrub will grow to 4m (12ft) high by 3m (10ft) across.Top Tips- Your Magnolias require little pruning other than to maintain their shape and remove damaged or crossing stems. Do this as soon as possible after flowering to keep the flower buds for the following year.- When planting, choose your site carefully as magnolias dislike being moved.- Magnolia plants establish quicker when their roots are shaded so apply a mulch of rotted bark chips, manure or garden compost after planting, taking care not to mound it around the stem of the plant.Care Guide- Plant magnolias in a sunny or semi shaded position with protection from cold winds and spring frosts.- Magnolias prefer a rich, moist, well drained, acid to neutral soil so incorporate plenty of well-rotted manure or garden compost to improve the soil prior to planting.- To plant, water your potted plant well.- Dig a hole a little deeper and 3 x wider than the nursery pot.- Add a soil conditioner such as well-rotted manure to the earth removed from the hole if necessary.- Remove the plant from its pot and tease out a few of the roots.- Place your plant in the hole at the same level at the pot.- Refill the hole with the earth removed (backfilling).- Firm in the soil with your heel, avoiding the root ball.- Water well and mulch around the base of the plant with a collar, compost, gravel, bark etc.Planting Time:All yearFlowering Time:April - MayAbout You GardenEstablished for over 50 years, our award winning trusted plant supplier are based in South Lincolnshire. Acer Shirasawanum 'Jordan' - Single Potted Plant
  • £29.99

This product is offered for sale for home delivery exclusively via our website only. The images represent established plants, the supplied product may be younger. All heights listed are approximate and fully established plant heights may vary. The amount of foliage, buds or bloom on the plant will depend on what part of the season the product is purchased. Please see description below for full product details. Also known as the ‘Golden Full Moon’ Maple, Acer shirasawanum 'Jordan' is a slow-growing beauty with stunning, uniquely coloured, fan-shaped leaves. Starting with buttery-yellow leaves in the spring, in summer the tree's foliage transforms into a display of bright yellow/lime, before its leaves complete their transition to golden orange with red margins in the autumn. Small crimson flowers appear in summer as the tree matures, contrasting beautifully with the butter-yellow leaves. Perfect for any garden, it is easy to grow and very hardy even in the coldest parts of the UK. Suitable for UK gardeners at every level of experience, you can therefore plant this in the garden with confidence, for stunning displays for many years to come. With a bushy, spreading habit, this golden Japanese Maple will reach around 4m x 4m metres in 20 years and thrives in moist, well-drained soil in dappled shade (although will also be fine in full sun if kept regularly watered).Supplied as a 3L potted plant approx. 40-50cm tall, ready for immediate potting on or planting out.Top Tips- Leaf colour is best in partial shade, although full sun can be tolerated. Leaf scorch can be caused by lack of soil moisture or excessive exposure.Care GuidePlanting Advice for your Acer shirasawanum 'Jordan':- If your soil is slightly acidic, then you have the perfect conditions to grow Japanese maples - however do not worry if you have not as most can be grown in other soils as long as they are not wet, dry or very alkaline.- If growing in a pot, use a 50/50 mix of ericaceous and multipurpose compost if you can - although again don't worry overly about this.- If planting in the garden, prepare a wide hole and loosen the soil with a fork, incorporating organic matter as needed to improve moisture retention and condition.- Plant your Acer so that the top of the root ball is just slightly below ground level.- Fill the planting hole with soil and heel well in. Water well.Aftercare advice for your Acer shirasawanum:- Leaf colour is best in partial shade, although full sun can be tolerated as long as the plant is well watered.- Avoid exposed places as leaves can suffer with windburn (scorch), especially if the plant is dry.- Allow your Japanese Maple to get used to a whole day in the sun by starting it off in the shade, then standing it in its final sunny spot (in pot or in the garden soil) for one hour longer every day for a week.- Water regularly and deeply.- Feed with our specialist Acer feed.- Mulch every couple of years with well-rotted garden compost or well-rotted manure or leaf mould.Pruning advice for your Acer 'Jordan':- Acers generally do not need pruning, just remove any branches that are dead or damaged.Planting Time:March - OctoberFlowering Time:AprilAbout You GardenEstablished for over 50 years, our award winning trusted plant supplier are based in South Lincolnshire. All heights listed are approximate and fully established plant heights may vary. The amount of foliage, buds or bloom on the plant will depend on what part of the season the product is purchased. Please see description below for full product details.Boasting masses of large, pear-shaped fruit with deep red flesh that are ready for picking in late summer and early autumn, Brown Turkey is perfect in a large pot or grown in the ground. Even before the fruit is ripe the large shrub or small tree adds a presence to the garden as branches are clothed with large, deeply lobed leaves. It is also hardy and drought resistant. Bring a little bit of the exotic into your garden while giving your health and wellbeing a boost by growing grapes, kiwis, and other exotic fruits. Supplied as a standard form Fig tree, at 70-100cm tall, with a bout 50cm of clear stem, and a shaped 2-year-old head on top.Top Tips- Keep your fig containerised or keep the roots restricted for the best crops.Care GuidePlanting Advice for Fig Brown Turkey:- Pot-grown shrubs can be planted at any time of the year as long as the soil is not waterlogged or frozen. If in doubt, err towards spring but remember to keep pots well-watered so that the soil does not dry out.- Shrub roots generally tend to spread out rather than down, so dig a planting hole 3 x wider than the roots of the shrub you're planting, and mix some well rotted compost or manure with the soil from the hole and use this to re-fill one the shrub is in place.- We've found that a square hole is better than a round one as the new roots, once they reach the edges tend to grow in a circle round the circumference of the hole whereas when they reach the corners of a square hole, they find it easier to grow through.- Before planting soak container-grown shrubs thoroughly and allow to drain.- Remove the plant from its pot and tease out a few of the roots.- Add Mycorrhizal fungi to the roots when planting to help plants establish quicker.- Place your shrub in the hole at the same level at the pot.- Refill the hole with the earth removed (backfilling).- Firm in the soil with your heel, avoiding the root ball and water well.- Mulch around the base of the plant with a collar, compost, gravel, bark etc.- Alternatively plant in a large container filled with good quality, soil-based compost.Aftercare Advice for your Ficus:- If you’re planting in spring or summer, water well and regularly for the first few months.- Once planted, keep the area free of competing weeds and grass for the first couple of growing seasons.Pruning Advice for Brown Turkey Fig:- This standard tree should be pruned to keep its shape and size. When pruning, aim for a balanced top that allows light into the centre of the canopy.- Prune twice a year:- Early spring: remove any branches that spoil the shape, or any that are crossing or damaged, along with any suckers appearing from the ground or lower stem. If needed cut back one or two branches that have become too long and bare to a 5cm (2in) stub to stimulate new growth from the base of the branch.- Early summer: pinch out the new growth at five or six leaves. Do not prune later growth.Planting Time:All yearFlowering Time:March - AprilFruiting Time:August - SeptemberAbout You GardenEstablished for over 50 years, our award winning trusted plant supplier are based in South Lincolnshire.
