A brand new innovation for gardeners, these new Basket Starter Discs are a great option for easy gardening. The first time ever an easy solution for using beneficial microbes has been available for hanging baskets or tubs - and combined with fertiliser and water retaining gel in one simple to use disc. Created by the clever scientists that have pioneered Rootgrow, these discs are formed from compressed coir fibre, which binds in both beneficial biological microbes, and balanced slow release fertiliser -giving the perfect start to all hanging baskets, planters, tubs and windowboxes. Inserted at planting, when watered each disc swells to 5 times it's size, and the beneficial microbes will start to grow, bringing the compost to life and adding all the benefits of the natrual good microbes in the soil to the confines of a basket or tub. At the same time, the fertilsier is slowly released over several months, to give the perfect start to your plants. In addition, the water retaining crystals help prevent the compost from drying out by binding water in, reducing the amount of time and effort watering in summer. Blooming for up to 6 months of the year, Hydrangea paniculata 'Polestar' (R) (syn Ophelia) is a delightful hydrangea that will change colour through the year. Unique in that it will grow to just 50cm tall, 'Polestar' is perfect for container growing so you don't even need a garden to appreciate its beautiful, colour-changing blooms. The delicate blooms emerge green-white and take on a pink hue as they age, becoming pinker as the seasons progress. Coming into flower from late May and lasting well into October the faded flowers can remain on the plant right through the winter bringing extended interest across the seasons. Easy to grow and hardy right down to -25°C, this is a hydrangea suitable for anyone to grow and it will even double as a houseplant for the spring - just remember that ultimately it prefers to be outside. A beautiful, small-flowered, hardy perennial plant, which thrives in cool, shaded places which are often difficult to find plants for. Producing stunning and unique star-shaped flowers of cornflower blue edged in a pale lilac, each with a bright white central eye. Looking like a two-tone forget-me-not, the blooms of 'Starry Eyes' are produced above a mound of heart-shaped, evergreen leaves. A really delightful and unusual little perennial which is also known as Navelwort, Omphalodes forms small, low clumps about a foot across, flowering year after year in April and bringing early spring colour with the daffodils. Easy to grow, and requires little maintenance once established, you'll receive an established plant in a 9cm pot. A real little gem, and not often sold.
A bloom that is so exotic looking that is almost resembles a beautiful sea creature from a coral reef, Ferraria crispa 'Starfish Lily' is an amazing, but easy to grow bulb. Ideally planted in a sheltered spot, free of frost, or alternatively, grown in a pot in a greenhouse or conservatory this out of this world plant will produce its foliage in late autumn, developing thick, fleshy leaves in preparation for the flowers that will appear in spring. The blooms, once they have fully developed, have brown frilled edges, brown and purple spots of colour and a striking orange anthers, a real kaleidoscope!
