Crops of fresh, heathy fruit right on your doorstep while replenishing the tree population and reducing plastic consumption. Supplied as a bare root, grower quality tree, grafted on a single rootstock with 2 cherry varieties.Top Tips- Birds will quickly strip the ripening cherries from the tree - drape netting over cherry trees to protect the fruit from birds.Care Guide- Best grown in moderately fertile soil in full sun. Also perfect in large pots on a patio - 30cm diameter or larger and keep well watered.- Shrub roots generally tend to spread out rather than down, so dig a planting hole 3 x wider than the roots of the shrub you're planting, and mix some well rotted compost or manure with the soil from the hole and use this to re-fill one the shrub is in place.- We've found that a square hole is better than a round one as the new roots, once they reach the edges tend to grow in a circle round the circumference of the hole whereas when they reach the corners of a square hole, they find it easier to grow through.- Before planting soak container-grown shrubs thoroughly and allow to drain.- Remove the plant from its pot and tease out a few of the roots.- Add Mycorrhizal fungi to the roots when planting to help plants establish quicker.- Place your shrub in the hole at the same level at the pot.- Refill the hole with the earth removed (backfilling).- Firm in the soil with your heel, avoiding the root ball, water well.- Mulch around the base of the plant with a collar, compost, gravel, bark etc.- Apply a slow-release fertiliser such as blood fish and bone in early spring, and mulch to retain moisture, about a month before flowering.- Established trees don't require radical pruning to keep them fruiting, just take off any diseased, dying and damaged branches, (the three Ds) in spring. Look at the overall shape and aim for an open structure of branches and remove any that cross over so they don't damage each other. Trim longer new shoots back mid-summer for better shaped trees.- Harvest crops as soon as they ripen. Avoid leaving windfalls or over-ripe fruit on the ground.- Don't forget the tree guards as rabbits can strip the bark overnight.Planting Time:September - JuneFlowering Time:April - MayFruiting Time:July - AugustAbout You GardenEstablished for over 50 years, our award winning trusted plant supplier are based in South Lincolnshire. Compact and slow-growing, it will remain a manageable size for even the smallest garden or balcony! Why not buy a pair and place them either side of your gateway? Supplied as an established plant in a 5L pot, ready for immediate planting.Top Tips- When planting, choose your site carefully as magnolias dislike being moved.- Magnolia plants establish quicker when their roots are shaded so apply a mulch of rotted bark chips, manure or garden compost after planting, taking care not to mound it around the stem of the plant.Care Guide- When planting, choose your site carefully as magnolias dislike being moved.- Dig a hole twice the width of the roots, forking over the bottom to loosen the soil, and add some good quality fertiliser such as Blood Fish & Bone.- Aim to plant at the same depth as it was in the pot.- Holding the tree or plant upright in position with one hand, slowly backfill the hole with soil- Use your heel to compact the soil around the plant to ensure good contact around the roots.- If you're planting into pots, place some old rocks, stones or gravel in the bottom of the pot for drainage and ballast and use the best compost you can buy - an equal mix of ericaceous compost with John Innes No. 3 is ideal.- For tall trees and shrubs, we highly recommend using our Tree Planting Kit. You only need to support the bottom half of each trunk, so push 40cm of each stake into the soil next to each tree.- With the soft tie, make a figure of eight around both the trunk and stake, and fasten it off - your tree will now be better protected from strong winds.- Spread the Mycorrhizal fungi on the roots and in the soil when planting and ensure that it is in close contact with the roots.- Water the plants weekly - especially in dry weather - for the first 8 weeks or so - do not allow plants to dry out in the first four months after planting.- When the soil and air warm up from late March onwards, you should see the plant burst into life.Planting Time:February - NovemberFlowering Time:March - AprilAbout You GardenEstablished for over 50 years, our award winning trusted plant supplier are based in South Lincolnshire.
