The first Mahonia with blue-green, spine-free leaves, Mahonia 'Soft Caress' produces sprays of beautiful, butter-yellow flowers from August through to October followed by blue berries that attract birds into the garden throughout the colder months. A previous Winner of the Plant of the Year award at RHS Chelsea Flower Show, Soft Caress is a compact version of the familiar border plant but without the prickles. A superb specimen for a container or the front of the border near to pathways and doorways - especially as it has lost those spiky leaves! It has also been recommended by the RHS as a 'Plant for Pollinators' the flowers are produced through the spring and summer and are a favourite with butterflies and bees. A lover of sunny areas, this dainty Mahonia will also make a fine addition to a partially shaded border too where it will reach a mature height and spread of just 1m x 1m while proving invaluable, year-round interest. More commonly known as the Common Broom, Cytisus is a family of shrubs native to heaths, and as such are absolutely perfect for gardens that are cold or exposed and are particularly suitable for coastal gardens. Absolutely amazing when clothed in bloom, 'Golden Tears' is a beautiful variety with slender, arching stems smothered in masses of lightly fragrant, yellow pea-like flowers that are a magnet for hoverflies and other pollinating insects. Drought resistant when established, brooms are used to growing in relatively poor, sandy soils and will relish being planted in normal soil in most garden borders and their compact nature makes them ideal for growing in pots. White flowers are borne in late spring followed by an abundance of spherical red berries in winter, which are loved by birds.
Flowering for several months, incredibly prolific and will produce masses of dainty flowers in a mix of colours. We have pre planted these into our hanging baskets in time they will cascade over the edge creating eye catching displays.
