Aquilegia vulgaris 'William Guinness'
  • £12.99

Aquilegia vulgaris 'William Guinness' is a striking variety of Columbine. From the shape of its flowers, it is easy to see why it is sometimes dubbed 'Granny's Bonnet', although the black blooms with white corolla are certainly more fashionable than the average pensioner's headwear! Indeed, these unusual colours give the plant the alternative name of Aquilegia 'Magpie' and you will certainly want to collect several of these hardy perennials which are attractive to beneficial garden insects such as bees and butterflies. After it has flowered in the late spring, the green foliage and appealing seedheads of Aquilegia 'William Guinness' remain an attractive addition to sunny or partially shady gardens throughout the season.

This product is offered for sale for home delivery exclusively via our website only. The images represent established plants, the supplied product may be younger. All heights listed are approximate and fully established plant heights may vary. The amount of foliage, buds or bloom on the plant will depend on what part of the season the product is purchased. Please see description below for full product details. One of the most valuable garden shrubs in winter, Camellias flower when just about everything else is dormant. 'Volunteer' doesn't disappoint with its exquisite, large, double flowers in soft pink with a paler edge. As the flowers age their colour deepens but the tips of the petals remain light, creating a beautifully contrasting two-tone effect. The fantastic and joyful display begins in January and continues into March, just when you need an uplifting splash of bold colour in you garden. Camellias need acidic soils - like Rhododendrons, so they should be grown in ericaceous compost. They are evergreen, and their neat, shiny tough leaves will provide a backdrop to other plants all year. Flower buds start swelling late the previous summer, and keep getting bigger all autumn and winter until they explode into colour. Supplied as an established plant in a 13cm. Patio Pear Williams Tree
  • £24.99

One of the traditional English dessert pears, Williams (or Williams Bon Chretien, after the nurseryman who first propagated it) is a pear tree with a pedigree dating back to the late 18th century. Also known as the Bartlett Pear, Williams is a good early-season pear variety, producing a regular crop of large, yellow, aromatic fruits with an excellent sweet and juicy flavour. Williams pears have a typical and recognisable 'pear flavour', and this British bred pear is perfect for poaching and preserving, as well as eating fresh from the tree from mid to late September. Great for wildlife, 'Williams' is on the RHS perfect for pollinators list and is self-fertile, plus when it's in bloom in the middle of the blossom season it can be pollinated by most other pear trees meaning an even bigger crop. As this tree is on a dwarfing rootstock, it will not get to more than 1.5m in 5 years when in a pot. This will also make picking your fruits so much easier than those of a bigger tree. Supplied as an established plant in a 5L pot, approx. 90-110cm tall, ready to pot on or plant out.
