Simply add the soil into the special planting basket, add the plant, cover with gravel and your Water Lily is ready to add to your pond. Bare root perennials are already full-sized plants, allowing you to enjoy good growth and crop in the first year. No need to wait as long to see your favourite blooms which will return year after year. Kit includes a yellow water lily (Nymphaea chromotella), planting basket, top quality aquatic soil and decorative gravel. Top Tips- Water lilies flourish in still water, so do not plant them near a pond pump or fountain. As these Lilies are dry-packed, young plants, they need starting off gently. Initially, place the filled baskets on a shallow shelf of the pond, where only the top of the plant is at the water line, and allow it to establish.- Alternatively, set them up submerged in a decorative pot or planter on your decking or patio to start, then, when established, move them into the pond.Care Guide- The mesh container is specially designed to allow water to circulate through the compost, providing the plants with both oxygen and nutrients.- To plant up, add 1/3 of the soil to the basket and place the lily on top, spreading its roots. Add the rest of the soil and the gravel on top.- After potting and once established, all you need to do is to place the pot into a pond. Most Magnolia are pink or shades thereof, so this rare and fabulously unique hybrid 'Yellow Bird' really is unusual. Magnolia Yellow Bird bears the most wonderful huge lemon-yellow flowers, sometimes streaked lime green, emerging just before the deep green leaves unfurl in the spring. Easy to grow, it's hardy to -15C (although best to avoid windy sites) and with just a little prune to shape will form a nice, low maintenance, medium sized specimen garden tree. Not just a plant for the garden, you can also plant up in a large patio container and place by a doorway, gateway or pathway where it will make a superb eye-catching feature, or on a patio where you can really enjoy the beauty. Supplied as an established plant in a 3Lpot,ready for immediate planting.Top Tips- Plant magnolias in a sunny or semi shaded position with protection from cold winds and hard spring frosts. Magnolias prefer a rich, moist, well drained, acid to neutral soil so incorporate plenty of well-rotted manure or garden compost to improve the soil prior to planting. Magnolia plants establish quicker when their roots are shaded so apply a mulch of rotted bark chips, manure or garden compost after planting, taking care not to mound it around the stem of the plant.Care Guide- When planting, choose your site carefully as magnolias dislike being moved.- Dig a hole twice the width of the roots, forking over the bottom to loosen the soil, and add some good quality fertiliser such as Blood Fish & Bone.- Aim to plant at the same depth as it was in the pot.- Holding the tree or plant upright in position with one hand, slowly backfill the hole with soil- Use your heel to compact the soil around the plant to ensure good contact around the roots.- If you're planting into pots, place some old rocks, stones or gravel in the bottom of the pot for drainage and ballast and use the best compost you can buy - an equal mix of ericaceous compost with John Innes No. 3 is ideal.- For tall trees and shrubs, we highly recommend using our Tree Planting Kit.
