If in doubt, err towards spring but remember to keep pots well-watered so that the soil does not dry out.- Shrub roots generally tend to spread out rather than down, so dig a planting hole 3 x wider than the roots of the shrub you're planting, and mix some well rotted compost or manure with the soil from the hole and use this to re-fill one the shrub is in place.- We've found that a square hole is better than a round one as the new roots, once they reach the edges tend to grow in a circle round the circumference of the hole whereas when they reach the corners of a square hole, they find it easier to grow through.- Before planting soak container-grown shrubs thoroughly and allow to drain.- Remove the plant from its pot and tease out a few of the roots.- Add Mycorrhizal fungi to the roots when planting to help plants establish quicker.- Place your shrub in the hole at the same level at the pot.- Refill the hole with the earth removed (backfilling).- Firm in the soil with your heel, avoiding the root ball and water well.- Mulch around the base of the plant with a collar, compost, gravel, bark etc.- Alternatively plant in a large container filled with good quality, soil-based compost.Aftercare Advice for your Ficus:- If you’re planting in spring or summer, water well and regularly for the first few months.- Once planted, keep the area free of competing weeds and grass for the first couple of growing seasons.Pruning Advice for Brown Turkey Fig:- This standard tree should be pruned to keep its shape and size. When pruning, aim for a balanced top that allows light into the centre of the canopy.- Prune twice a year:- Early spring: remove any branches that spoil the shape, or any that are crossing or damaged, along with any suckers appearing from the ground or lower stem. If needed cut back one or two branches that have become too long and bare to a 5cm (2in) stub to stimulate new growth from the base of the branch.- Early summer: pinch out the new growth at five or six leaves. Do not prune later growth.Planting Time:All yearFlowering Time:March - AprilFruiting Time:August - SeptemberAbout You GardenEstablished for over 50 years, our award winning trusted plant supplier are based in South Lincolnshire. Birds will quickly strip the ripening cherries from the tree - drape netting over cherry trees to protect the fruit from birds.Care Guide- Best grown in moderately fertile soil in full sun. Also perfect in large pots on a patio - 30cm diameter or larger and keep well watered.- Shrub roots generally tend to spread out rather than down, so dig a planting hole 3 x wider than the roots of the shrub you're planting, and mix some well rotted compost or manure with the soil from the hole and use this to re-fill one the shrub is in place.- We've found that a square hole is better than a round one as the new roots, once they reach the edges tend to grow in a circle round the circumference of the hole whereas when they reach the corners of a square hole, they find it easier to grow through.- Before planting soak container-grown shrubs thoroughly and allow to drain.- Remove the plant from its pot and tease out a few of the roots.- Add Mycorrhizal fungi to the roots when planting to help plants establish quicker.- Place your shrub in the hole at the same level at the pot.- Refill the hole with the earth removed (backfilling).- Firm in the soil with your heel, avoiding the root ball.- Water well and mulch around the base of the plant with a collar, compost, gravel, bark etc.- Apply a slow-release fertiliser such as blood fish and bone in early spring, and mulch to retain moisture, about a month before flowering.- Established trees don't require radical pruning to keep them fruiting, just take off any diseased, dying and damaged branches, (the three Ds) in spring. Look at the overall shape and aim for an open structure of branches and remove any that cross over so they don't damage each other. Trim longer new shoots back mid-summer for better shaped trees.- Harvest crops as soon as they ripen. Avoid leaving windfalls or over-ripe fruit on the ground.- Don't forget the tree guards as rabbits can strip the bark overnight.Planting Time:March - SeptemberFlowering Time:April - MayFruiting Time:August - SeptemberAbout You GardenEstablished for over 50 years, our award winning trusted plant supplier are based in South Lincolnshire. Cherry Bush 'Porthos' - Single Pot Grown Bush
  • £22.99

This product is offered for sale for home delivery exclusively via our website only. The images represent established plants, the supplied product may be younger. All heights listed are approximate and fully established plant heights may vary. The amount of foliage, buds or bloom on the plant will depend on what part of the season the product is purchased. Please see description below for full product details. This is simply a completely new way to grow cherries, one which were it not for the persistence of an enthusiastic breeder may never have seen the light of day. It is simply the first bush cherry, as opposed to a tree, so forms a nice neat clump of many fruiting branches right from the base - and as a result does not get too tall, making picking really easy. It yields well, is 100% self-fertile, and has the iconic spring cherry blossom too - so makes the perfect garden cherry. Growing fruit tress enhances the well-being of the environment and that of you and your family. Crops of fresh, heathy fruit right on your doorstep while replenishing the tree population and reducing plastic consumption. Supplied as a 3L pot grown bush, branching, and ready to plant all year.Top Tips- Pot-grown shrubs can be planted at any time of the year as long as the soil is not waterlogged or frozen. If in doubt, err towards spring but remember to keep pots well-watered so that the soil does not dry out. Birds will quickly strip the ripening cherries from the tree - drape netting over cherry trees to protect the fruit from birds.Care Guide- Best grown in moderately fertile soil in full sun. Also perfect in large pots on a patio - 30cm diameter or larger and keep well watered.- Shrub roots generally tend to spread out rather than down, so dig a planting hole 3 x wider than the roots of the shrub you're planting, and mix some well rotted compost or manure with the soil from the hole and use this to re-fill one the shrub is in place.- We've found that a square hole is better than a round one as the new roots, once they reach the edges tend to grow in a circle round the circumference of the hole whereas when they reach the corners of a square hole, they find it easier to grow through.- Before planting soak container-grown shrubs thoroughly and allow to drain.- Remove the plant from its pot and tease out a few of the roots- Add Mycorrhizal fungi to the roots when planting to help plants establish quicker.- Place your shrub in the hole at the same level at the pot- Refill the hole with the earth removed (backfilling)- Firm in the soil with your heel, avoiding the root ball- Water well- Mulch around the base of the plant with a collar, compost, gravel, bark etc- Apply a slow-release fertiliser such as blood fish and bone in early spring, and mulch to retain moisture, about a month before flowering.- Established trees don't require radical pruning to keep them fruiting, just take off any diseased, dying and damaged branches, (the three Ds) in spring. Look at the overall shape and aim for an open structure of branches and remove any that cross over so they don't damage each other. Trim longer new shoots back mid-summer for better shaped trees.- Harvest crops as soon as they ripen. Avoid leaving windfalls or over-ripe fruit on the ground.- Don't forget the tree guards as rabbits can strip the bark overnight.Planting Time:All yearFlowering Time:April - MayFruiting Time:July - AugustAbout You GardenEstablished for over 50 years, our award winning trusted plant supplier are based in South Lincolnshire. Complete Patio Potato Growing Kit

All heights listed are approximate and fully established plant heights may vary. The amount of foliage, buds or bloom on the plant will depend on what part of the season the product is purchased. Please see description below for full product details. This Patio Potato Growing Kit means that anyone can now grow delicious, fresh potatoes. You don't even need a garden as a patio, balcony or courtyard will do! Just add compost and water and you'll soon be harvesting your first new potatoes. We have included three popular varieties 'Charlotte', 'Swift and 'Desiree':- 'Charlotte' - One of the most popular salad potatoes in the UK, the instantly recognisable, oval-shaped tubers can grow much larger than other salad varieties and have a firm yellow waxy flesh. Perfect for potato salads or boiled and dripping in butter.- 'Swift' - One of the quickest growing and fastest to mature baby new potatoes, a heavy yielder and tastes magnificent.'- Desiree' - Creamy-yellow flesh with red skin, great for chips, roasting, jacket potatoes or simple boiling. These special seed potatoes have been held in cold store until now and will grow rapidly once planted right up to the end July to give you ‘new’ potatoes through autumn and even up to Christmas. This is the perfect way to grow your own potatoes and what's even better is it requires no back-breaking digging whatsoever. The Heavy Duty 30 Litre Pots can be used again and again and the Organic Potato Fertiliser can be used all around your vegetable garden. Potatoes will be packed in the bottom pot, underneath the other two, in order to protect them.Top Tips- Note: Your seed potatoes will need chitting prior to planting. On receipt, stand them in an egg box in a cool, light room so they can begin chitting (shooting). Leave for 3-4 weeks, and short dark shoots (chits) will emerge. Take care not to damage these when handling or planting. Keep your potatoes well watered as they grow - dry conditions will result in a considerably reduced crop.Care Guide- Start with a little compost in the base of your container, about 6-7in (15-17cm). Place the tubers onto the compost and half fill the pot. Keep some horticultural fleece handy, should cold nights threaten.- The green shoots will eventually poke up through the compost, and when they do, cover them with another layer of compost, water and feed. Keep on adding as the plants grow until you reach the top of the pot or bag.- First and second earlies will grow quicker than maincrop potatoes which are in the pots for longer, so require more regular watering.- In the ground, first earlies will take around 14 weeks to mature, second earlies around 16 weeks, but in warm containers you can knock a couple of weeks off that, particularly if you like to eat them small and tender.- New potatoes are at their best eaten immediately, so pull out only what you want for one meal, leaving the rest to grow on.Planting Time:January - MayFruiting Time:July - OctoberAbout You GardenEstablished for over 50 years, our award winning trusted plant supplier are based in South Lincolnshire. All heights listed are approximate and fully established plant heights may vary. The amount of foliage, buds or bloom on the plant will depend on what part of the season the product is purchased. Please see description below for full product details.Crank up the heat in the garden with this fiery deciduous grass. Slowly growing into large clumps, Red Baron boasts 50cm long leaves that are green near the base turning more intensively red towards its tips. Equally at home in semi-shade as it is full sun, this grass is great for making a statement in pots or can be grown alongside perennials or other grasses in beds. If you really want to make an impact, plant it end-masse, in swathes or as an edging plant alongside a path. Dead easy to look after water it occasionally, especially in pots, and cut plants to ground level when they start to wither later in the year or before new growth appears in spring.Top Tips- These ornamental grasses are deciduous, cut back stems close to ground level from late February through to the end of March before new growth starts.Care Guide- Before planting, prepare the soil by digging over and removing any weeds. Incorporate some well-rotted manure to enrich the soil if necessary.- When planting a number of perennials, arrange them on the surface so you can see how they will look before planting.- Individually knock out each plant from its container. Look at the roots – if they are circling around the compost, it is best to tease them out. To do this, push your fingers into the rootball along the bottom edge and pull. Do this in a couple of places. This should encourage the roots to spread into the surrounding soil.- Next use a trowel or spade to create a hole just deep and wide enough to set in the rootball.- The aim is to bury just the roots, leaving the bases of the stems (when in growth in summer) or the shoots (in spring) above ground.- Firm back around the soil, using your hand for small clumps and your heel on larger areas.- Water in well to settle the soil and prevent desiccation.Planting Time:All yearAbout You GardenEstablished for over 50 years, our award winning trusted plant supplier are based in South Lincolnshire.
