Grow a real taste of the orient with this quite remarkable citrus tree. It's hard to believe that these bizarre fruits are so closely related to the common orange yet each fleshy finger like lobe is actually a fruit segment that has developed it's own skin to give the unique hand shape. Revered in the Far East the fruits are often presented as gifts by visitors as they fill a room with a zesty fragrance. There is little flesh in the fingers but the peel is wonderfully scented and can be used in any recipe that calls for orange zest. It also makes lovely infusions or can be used in pot pourri. Producing the same perfumed white blossom as a lemon, this is a fascinating plant for any conservatory or summer patio but should be protected in winter weather by bringing indoors Perfect in a large pot.
Yellow Groove Bamboo Phyllostachys aureosulcata aureocaulis has long, slender golden yellow stems which form strange zig-zag patterns as they grow, providing a real interesting twist and instant impact! Not only that, but the stems have beautifully contrasting red highlights when grown in the sun. They will form attractive and long lasting clumps, and due to their height are ideal for screening or dividing areas of your garden. Keep plants in check by growing them in pots and they will add great impact in large patio containers. Very hardy, they will need very little care, so they are perfect for busy gardeners. Just make sure your plants are well watered in summer and dont let them dry out if you're growing yours in a pot.
Taking a 'Champion' apple tree and expertly grafting three other varieties onto it has produced a single tree that carries four entirely different varieties of apple! Perfect if you're short on space, it means that you can grow a selection of delicious apples in a pot on your patio if you don't have room in the garden space for it. With wonderful blossom in the spring followed by masses of delicious fruit, this incredible tree has something to offer all year round. The apples will ripen at their natural time, giving a much longer cropping period than you'd have if growing just a one variety. 'Champion' a cross between 'Golden Delicious' and 'Cox's Orange Pippin' with extra-large, deep red, juicy and crisp fruit that keeps fresh for a long time. A wonderful eating apple and great for juicing. Ready to harvest in October. 'Elstar' is a versatile variety that is delicious and juicy eaten straight from the tree, this apple's honeyed sweetness balanced with slight acidity means it is also a great for cooking - superb in cakes, desserts and apple sauce! Producing medium-sized dessert apples, 'Elstar' are bursting with juicy flavour, ready from October to December. 'Pinova' lovely yellow skin flushed with orange and a good juicy balance between sweet and tart. Aromatic with crisp, firm flesh and great for eating and cooking, ripening from October and stores particularly well. 'Braeburn' is the UK's most popular eating apple variety by far! The crisp and juicy white-fleshed fruits have what is considered by most to be the perfect sweet/tangy flavour balance, literally providing a flavour explosion with every mouthful, providing gorgeous fruit from mid-October.
The canary-yellow blooms of the Flowering Mimosa Tree are a spectacular sight from January to April every year, where hundreds of bobbly yellow blooms smother the branches of the Mimosa tree in a lemon haze, almost hiding the stunning grey green filigree foliage that makes this tree a handsome year round feature in the garden. Set among a ball of fern-like leaves on a standard stem, the eye-catching pom-pom blooms not only look a picture but carry a heavenly fragrance and provide a valuable nectar source for friendy insects that emerge in milder weather. Widely seen across southern Europe, this variety will thrive outdoors in most of the UK too and is a great plant for conservatories or sunny corners of a room indoors in regions prone to severe frost - altogether a super tree to own! It's a great choice for a large container too producing a really unique feature tree and if you buy a pair you can frame doorways and entrances.
Tree ferns were a firm plant hunter's favourite from Victorian times, a symbol of wealth and travel experiences to Australia. They have maintained this sense of mystique ever since. Now you too can grow these surprisingly easy exotic looking plants too. Harvested under strict License from woodland clearance in Australia and Tasmania, these astonishing plants really will delight and amaze. They grow under the woodland canopy, in the shade, so grow them here in a sheltered spot too. These 'potter' logs are at least 10 years old, and have been cut back and harvested dormant. When you water them via the top crown, they will burst back into life, like it's the new rainy season! Because they grow in leaf canopies, most of their food comes from leaves falling into their giant shuttlecock like fronds, funnelling the goodness into the growing crown. That's hard to achieve in UK gardens so we provide 500ml of concentrated tree fern food, which mimics this feeding method. Even at this size of log at 20-25cm tall, new fronds of almost 1M in length will unfurl spectacularly within a Month or so of you watering it. It's amazing when they come how quickly they grow. The plant is hardy down to -5 in Winter, although the fronds will die back. Cutting these off when they die back is what creates the new trunk, which slowly inches up over many, many years. Keep the crown protected in Winter with a layer of straw to keep cold and wet out. When you get it home, plant it in a big pot, or in the garden soil. It takes almost 2 years to root in, so do not be alarmed by this slow growing beauty.
Transform your garden into a tropical paradise with this fantastically exotic Fan Palm! Chamaerops humilis (also known as the Dwarf Fan Palm) are the palms you will see growing all across the Mediterranean - and if ever there was a plant to give your garden a holiday feel, then this is it ! Despite their exotic good looks, fan palms are frost hardy to -5C! so will withstand frost but benefit from going undercover if the temperature drops too low. With their large round leaves that are cut into linear, fan-like segments growing abundantly in a round, compact bush, these Chamaerops humilis are perfect for pots on your patio, or they'll make a striking spectacle in a sunny border. Like all palms, Chamaerops are very easy to grow and love hot sunny weather plus they are drought tolerant when established so a great option for those who tend to forget to water now and again!
A brand new variety for 2021, hydrangea 'French Bolero' will amaze all who see it with its incredible flowers that, unlike most hydrangeas, are carried along the entire length of its branches instead of only on the tips. A real breakthrough in breeding which it shares with hydrangea 'Runaway Bride'! The abundance of white lace-cap flowers covering this shrub from June until October look simply amazing and change colour depending on the acidity of the soil. Alkaline soils will produce delightful soft pink blooms, whilst acid soil will give you beautiful pastel shades of blue and purple. 'French Bolero' has a wonderfully compact and airy, spreading habit and is perfect for growing in a large patio pot - where you can choose the compost to give you the flower colour you want - and it's equally at home in the middle of the border. Wherever you plant this truly impressive hydrangea, the stunning flowers make it a real must-have addition to your garden, and the long, flower covered stems look spectacular as cut flowers too! Once flowering is over in the autumn, the faded flower heads look amazing left on the plants, where they'll become a much appreciated winter home to insects, and they look spectacular on frosty days. They can also be dried and used in indoor arrangements. Supplied as an established plant in a 3L pot, ready for planting, growing to a height and spread of 1m (3ft).
