Begonia Maculata commonly referred to as the Polka dot Begonia, is undoubtedly one of the most strikingly gorgeous species of indoor plants. This is not your average hanging basket begonia but a tropical talking point! The long leaves have a lovely red backing as well as the striking symmetrical patterning on the front. Warmth is the key with these plants this along with some light and they will thrive. Light and Water The Polka dot Begonia prefers a bit more shade than most indoor plants. Placing it in a bright, well-lit room away from direct sunlight is advisable to keep those silvery-white olive leaves vibrant. If the leaves start to appear scorched, you should move it to a less sunny part of the room. If you like to take your plant outside during summer, make sure to place it in the shade away from direct sunlight. This plant is highly susceptible to root rot. As such, it is always best to add a layer of pebbles and on a tray to allow better drainage. Make sure the pot drains fully between watering. The soil should be kept damp but not overly wet. Like most tropical plants, they like high humidity so regular misting is best.

A very large trailing Ivy plant, this Pittsburgh Ivy or sometimes called English Ivy variety has wonderful shaped leaves with subtle striped variegation. A classic plant seen in every quintessential garden whether it is creeping up walls or hanging from atop. This will grow fast if you let it, but regular pruning can keep it in check. It loves wet and humid spots so a bathroom is a great spot or any location up high (with regular misting) so you can see its wonderful trailing vines. Light and Water Keep it in a bright spot with lots of indirect light to encourage but keep it rather cool so not on a sunny windowsill or near radiators as this can cause its leaves to drop. Keep the soil moist, watering when the top two inches of the soil has dried out.
With beautiful coloured fleshy spathes and flowering spikes, these Anthuriums are essential to anyone look-ing to create a tropical feel in their homes. These indoor plants are epiphytes, a type of air plant that come from warm, tropical regions where they either grow on the surface of other plants or in rich organic humus. Therefore, as a houseplant, the Anthurium is extremely durable and requires little care. Light and Water Flowering Anthurium requires bright, indirect light (direct sunlight will scorch the leaves and flowers!). Low light will slow growth and produce fewer, smaller “flowers.” Most Anthuriums thrive on humidity. If your humidity level is less than 50%, then consider using a humidifier to increase the level to at least 60%. Filling small trays with pebbles and water and grouping indoor plants together can slightly increase the humidity immediately surrounding your plants.
The Chinese Money plant (or Pilea Peperomioides) has been a popular plant ever since it was originally brought over from the southwestern Yunnan province of China. Their bright green pancake-shaped leaves provide a burst of colour against white walls or paler backgrounds. Light and Water Light-wise, the best situation for a Chinese money plant is bright light, with no direct sunlight. Direct sun scorches leaves, and light shade may encourage larger leaves. They’re said to be hardy down to freezing, and a period of cool temperatures may make them more likely to produce their tiny white flowers on pink stems. The Chinese money plant prefers a well-draining potting soil, and a pot with drainage holes is necessary. The soil needs to mostly dry out between waterings, with more watering required in warmer, sunnier weather. If the leaves start to look slightly droopy, that’s a sign that the plant needs water. To keep your Chinese money plant nicely shaped, rotate it at least once a week to prevent it from getting lopsided. The large leaves tend to accumulate dust, so these plants benefit from regular showers, or at least wiping down of their leaves. Treat monthly with an all-purpose plant fertilizer during the spring and summer growing seasons.
