More commonly known as a Snowdrop tree thanks to the white bell shaped flowers that appear in late spring, this ornamental tree needs virtually no maintenance. Flowers appear before the green foliage in April to May followed by unusual four-winged fruits in late summer that will last right through until winter providing added interest.
It's the bright gold foliage that makes Veronica prostrata 'Aztec Gold' such a good performer. Growing on tall stems, the golden leaves add structure and colour to the garden all year round, contrasting with green or purple-leaved plants as well as with its own blue flowers which appear from early summer onwards. The flowers are attractive to bees, and this Prostrate Speedwell is rabbit resistant. It works well in gravel gardens and hot, dry sunny banks and borders. Height: 15cm (6). Spread: 30cm (12).
A striking rhizomatous perennial which typically grows in dense, bushy clumps, producing masses of single yellow, daisy-like flowers throughout the summer. Known commonly as whorled coreopsis, this plant holds the coveted RHS Award of Garden Merit and makes an excellent border filler with its well-branched habit and airy clumps of feathery leaves. Coreopsis verticillata 'Zagreb' is useful not only in herbaceous borders, but grows well in patio containers, where it attracts swarms of bees and butterflies to its nectar-rich blooms. Hosta 'Sum and Substance' is a great plantain lily that has been awarded the coveted RHS Award of Garden Merit (AGM). This bold and beautiful Hosta has huge, deeply corrugated deep green leaves which make a good backdrop for tall stems bearing pale lilac flowers which appear in July. Blanket flowers are an extremely durable variety that tolerate drought and coastal positions that would prove challenging for many other plants, as well as positively thriving in light sandy soils. This hardy perennial provides unbeatable performance in patio containers, beds and borders, as well as making superb cut flowers. Gaillardia aristata 'Burgundy' will also help to draw pollinating insects into your garden.
